New Beginnings Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter The Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter at St. The program serves individuals primarily in Albany County and surrounding counties. At St.

New Beginnings Emergency Shelter provides 24/7 access to temporary shelter and support for youth under the age of 18 who have run away from home or are experiencing homelessness, as well as Street Outreach services for youth up to their 22nd birthday. Anne Institute is a residential facility specifically designed to provide temporary shelter, safety, and support for young individuals under the age

of 18 who have run away from home or are experiencing homelessness. This shelter is a critical resource for the vulnerable youth who may be facing dangerous or unstable living situations and need a safe place to stay. Anne’s our program is tailored to meet the unique needs of the local community and adhere to state and federal guidelines for youth shelters. The goal of the Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter at St. Anne Institute is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where young individuals can begin the process of addressing any of the issues that led to their homelessness or running away, while also helping them work towards achieving stability and a positive future. Services and Features:
Safe Accommodation: Our program offers a safe and secure environment for young individuals. They have a temporary place to sleep, access to restroom and shower facilities, and are protected from potential risks on the streets. Necessities: Those served in the shelter receive nutritious meals, clothing, personal hygiene products, and other essential items to meet their basic needs. Case Management: Each resident is assigned a case manager who works with them to assess their situation, understand the reasons for their homelessness or running away, and develop a plan for their future. Education Support: Our staff collaborate with local schools and educational programs to ensure that youth have access to schooling or tutoring services while in the shelter. Counseling and Support Services: Runaway and homeless youth may have experienced trauma or face emotional challenges. The shelter can provide access to counseling and emotional support to help them process their experiences and work towards healing. Recreation and Activities: The Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter offers recreational and social activities to promote positive social interactions and create a sense of community among the residents. Family Reconnection: If it is safe and appropriate, our staff may work to mediate and support family reunification, aiming to resolve conflicts and address underlying issues that lead to the youth running away or becoming homeless. Referrals and Collaborations: The shelter collaborates with local organizations and agencies to connect youth with additional services, such as medical care, substance abuse counseling, legal aid, or housing programs. Transitional Planning: As youth approach the age limit for staying in the shelter (usually 18), the program assists in creating a transition plan to ensure they have a stable living arrangement and support system in place after leaving the shelter. On Sunday 1/25/26 our Program Director, Pam and Program Manager, Talia bundled up before picking up our weekly donation from Whole Foods Market and distributing them to Free Food Fridge Albany. Hunger doesn’t stop when it’s cold.

We would like to send a big shot out to NYSDOH - New York State Health Department for their generous donation of bedding and laundry supplies. These seemingly basic items make a considerable difference in the lives of youth experiencing homelessness. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Friday January 16th was a busy day for the team at New Beginnings. Our Case Planner, Jasmin and Street Outreach Worker, Shanele attended APD Youth and Family Community Resource Fair. They were joined by several other members of the St. Anne Institute family including Kelly, our Interim Director of Residential Services, Becky, our Program Administrator for The Beacon Crisis Residence Program, Rosa, our Assistant Director of Community Based Clinical and Care Management Services and Diana, one of our Health Homes Care Managers. The event provided them the opportunity to connect with youth, families and other services providers. Later that evening, Shanele and Jasmin braved the freezing temperatures to join Street Soldiers in Academy Park to distribute food, hygiene, clothing and cold weather items to those in need.

Thank you, Albany Police Department and StreetSoldiers - Albany for inviting us to be an ongoing part of the support you are providing to the community.

On Monday, January 12 the current group of Albany Police Department cadets took time out of their vigorous schedule to visit St. Anne Institute. They learned about various agency programs and services, met several staff members and recieved a tour of New Beginnings Runaway and Homeless Youth shelter. We wish them all luck on their journey and look forward to working with them in the near future.

💡A cornerstone of our work at New Beginnings is professional development to ensure that we can provide the best care to our youth. And we have been BUSY!!

✅Our staff is proud to provide a synopsis of what we have been up to lately:

🔴 On 10/21, our Program Director, Pam, attended a state-wide Provider's Meeting in Rochester, hosted by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. The meeting discussed providing care for unhoused populations across the state.

🟠 On 10/22 & 10/23, Program Director Pam and our Case Planner, Hayden, attended the Runaway and Homeless Youth Providers Gathering in Utica, hosted by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Not only did they attend, but Pam was a crucial member of the planning committee, and also facilitated parts of the conference. The theme was Youth Strength-Based Practices.

🟡 On 10/29, Program Director Pam and Case Planner Hayden attended the New York State Office of Children and Family Services Anti-Trafficking Summit in Albany. There was much emphasis on listening to survivors and prevention of trafficking.

🟢 On 11/3, Program Director Pam attended the Albany County Housing and Homeless Solutions Summit, hosted by the Daniel McCoy - Albany County Executive's team, in partnership with the Albany County Department of Mental Health, Department of Social Services, CARES of NY, and the Albany County Coalition on Homelessness (ACCH). This was a working summit involving guided discussions and informing the ACCH Strategic Plan.

🔵 On 11/6, Program Director Pam and Case Planner Hayden attended the Albany County Community Cafe hosted by The Honorable Richard Rivera, J.S.C., Statewide Coordinating Judge for Family Court Matters, and Casey Family Programs. This event had panels including youth, parents, and community providers, as well as small group conversations led by table hosts.

🟣 We would like to thank all of the organizers for these events for providing a space for us to connect with other youth providers across New York State and refresh our minds with tons of ideas for caring for our youth! There were brilliant discussions and lots of shared ideas and concerns.

We look forward to future events that will enrich our program and help us better serve the families in need throughout the Capital Region.
