CANTON: JOIN US TUESDAY TO TALK OPPOSING DATA CENTERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Last week, Perry Township and the City of Canton voted to give an Amazon backed data center a 75% 30 year tax abatement. Shame!

But this fight is not over. Now is not the time to surrender. We have public opinion on our side—we just need to organize the disapproval into a sustained opposition!

No more Corporate Welfare!

CANTON: REJECT DATE CENTERS IN YOUR COMMUNITIES!

Perry Township is building a HYPER-SCALE DATA CENTER. Join us and other community members for an information and networking event where we will explain how we got here, who owns the Data Center, and what can be done, etc.

It is no secret that Stark County desperately needs new jobs. The resources and tax abatements given to these projects could be used to improve the lives of people across Ohio by creating jobs in green energy and updating and improving public infrastructure. Instead, they are being directed toward developments that enrich massive corporations and Billionaire investors

Data Centers pollute our community, use excessive amounts of water, and provide very few permanent jobs. The cost of a hyperscaled data center in our community far outweighs the benefits.

VOTE SOCIALIST CAMPAIGN EVENT IN AKRON ON SATURDAY AT 2pm

We are busy spreading the word: is coming to his hometown of Akron on Saturday, 2pm, for a campaign event at Trinity UCC.

Please come join us to hear from this anti-racist, anti-war, and pro-working people’s champion!

This movement is big and only growing: we have the chance to transform politics as we know it in Ohio. But we can only do it with your help!

So come out Saturday and get involved in the people’s movement!

CANTON: THIS FIGHT IS NOT OVER!

Yesterday Canton City Council opted against the will of its constituents by unanimously approving a data center in Perry Township for tax abatements. This anti-democratic move will only further catalyze a growing local movement against data centers. People understand all too week that these sites create almost no jobs, receive a huge amount of tax credits and subsidies, and pollute nearby areas while consuming an outrageous amount of electricity and water.

Across the country we have witnessed popular movements against these data centers—centers that are being imposed on people, both urban and rural alike, without any democratic input by those most harmed by them.

In Cleveland last week, a huge backlash to a proposed data center in Slavic Village pressured their local government to suspend all data center plans in the city. We can win that in Canton too.

While yesterday’s city council decision was a setback, this fight is not over. Do not give up or surrender. There are more of us than there are of them!

Keep speaking out. Keep fighting back. Our solidarity is with all those who oppose Big Tech’s hostile takeover.

JUSTICE FOR JAZMIR—ARREST DAVON FIELDS!

Akron police officer Davon Fields, who shot 15-year-old Jazmir twice in the back in November 2024, has now been accused of a recent sexual assault and placed on “paid administrative leave.”

By the establishment’s refusal to prosecute the this violent cop, the city is further endangering its residents. Time to fire and charge Davis Fields!

Justice for Jazmir Tucker! Justice for all victims of racist police violence!

$1,000+ RAISED AT OUR TRANS BENEFIT SHOW LAST SATURDAY!

Big thank you to the great performers for donating their talent and for everyone who packed Musica for our Trans Benefit Show last Saturday, May 9th. And big shoutout to Haunted Closet for donating a gift card for our raffle.

We raised $1,100 for the Trans Ohio Emergency Fund! We will never stop fighting for trans liberation and for all forms of liberation! All these struggles are connected, and our solidarity is our greatest weapon ✊🏽

🚨The city of Canton and Perry Township have undemocratically decided to build a data center in our community.

This data center would create only a small number of new jobs while increasing energy costs and contributing to pollution in our city, all so a billion-dollar Silicon Valley company can increase its profits.

Residents of Canton and Perry Township reject this data center. We are calling on all residents to voice their opposition at the public forum on Tuesday, May 12, at 6:00 PM in the Canton City Council Chambers, Plaza Level of City Hall (218 Cleveland Avenue SW).
