One week from today, join us for a special screening of Back to Blackdom, a 15-minute documentary sharing the remarkable story of Blackdom, New Mexico, a thriving all-Black community established by African American homesteaders in the early 20th century.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Zoë Colfax and doctoral candidate Carlyn Pinkins, where this history will be further explored.

This event is hosted by the New Mexico Black Lawyers Association and co-sponsored by us alongside the New Mexico Black Judicial Council, the State Bar of NM's Historical Committee and Sankofa Arts Alliance of NM!

The Oklahoma Historical Society will host Caleb Gayle for a guest lecture at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, September 24. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Caleb Gayle is an award-winning journalist and the author of “Black Moses: A Saga of Ambition and the Fight for a Black State” and “We Refuse to Forget: A True Story of Black Creeks, American Identity, and Power.”

“Black Moses” charts the rise of Edward McCabe and his efforts to create a Black state in Oklahoma Territory during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The OHS recognized “Black Moses” with the E. E. Dale Award for Outstanding Book on Oklahoma History.

After the lecture, there will be a question-and-answer session, followed by a book signing and reception. Copies of “Black Moses” will be available for purchase.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested. We put a link in the comments and our bio.

Nicodemus National Historic Site is looking to hire a WG07 Maintenance Worker.

This is a permanent, full-time, year-round position. Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded maintenance workers. Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
