Walter Boomsma is feeling proud

A quick word of appreciation to the 50+ people who attended the Abbot Town Meeting last night (3/16). As predicted, we demonstrated how to have a good meeting, occasionally disagree, and still leave as friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, no one from the media was there to report how good it was--no protests, no assaults, no screaming, just folks working together to get things done in and for the community! Abbot really is Maine's #1 town!

Abbot held it's annual Town Meeting last night. March 16, 2026. The Town had one of it's biggest turn outs in recent years with 53 registered voters attending and a total of 60 people attending. What a great turn out for a small town!! Thank you to everyone who came out to participate on such a rainy, windy evening.

The county commissioner Paul Davis spoke briefly on the County's financial situation saying it is very good and stable. He gave a few updates and stated he is up for re election this year.

A very quick re cap. A selectperson's term was up. Scott Gourley was the incumbent who was nominated for re election. Tom Drummond was also nominated. A written paper ballot vote was done and Tom Drummond won the position of selectperson for a 3 year term.

Sabrina Magee was elected as the new Treasurer for the Town as Heather Weymouth Pomerleau declined nomination as she wished to step down from the position.

Other articles were presented, good questions asked and most articles passed.

More details to come. Today was an extremely busy day at the office. Will update on the meeting at a later time and day on the articles that did not pass. The minutes of the meeting will be completed very soon and they are available to the public upon request.
