Exactly one year ago today, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) through our member of the Council of Eminent Persons and then-lead promoter, Mzee Wafula Oguttu officially received our certificate of registration from the Electoral Commission.

​It wasn’t handed to us. We earned it through pure resilience after fighting back against intense regime intimidation aimed at scaring our district promoters away from appending their signatures.

The past 12 months haven’t been any easier. The regime has stopped at nothing to prevent PFF from spreading to the masses.
Our leaders remain held behind bars while others are targeted, we went through a deeply compromised process which the regime called an election, continued suffocation of public engagements and constitutional freedoms and endless court battles.

Persecution has only fueled our passion. Every roadblock thrown our way has only made our commitment to offering better and cleaner leadership grow stronger. Our unyielding mission is simple; to give our people a country where every single citizen’s rights are respected and where the power of the people reigns supreme.

​This is just the first of many anniversaries to come. We are fully dedicated to redirecting our nation back into proper constitutional order. Thank you to all our promoters, leaders and supporters who have stood firm. The struggle continues and the future belongs to the people!

Following the ruling by High Court judge Emmanuel Baguma to refuse Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale adequate time to file their defence as provided for by the constitution, Kizza Besigye defence lawyers made an application to challenge the ruling in the constitutional court.

Baguma had given Besigye and Lutale 7days to look through 900 documents and 11hours audio and video tape to come up with a defence in the treason case.

However, defence lawyers stated that the ruling was irrational and unconstitutional requiring them to challenge them.

Baguma dismissed the application through mail.

OUTRAGEOUS JUSTICE? High Court Judge Justice Emmanuel Baguma ordered Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale to file a defence from 900 documents and 11hrs of Tape within only 7days.

Besigye, Lutale and their defence lawyers had requested a month to look through the volumes of evidence prosecution presented against them but Baguma said 'in the interest of justice' a week is enough for them to come up with a defence.

A clash ensued in court as defence lawyers argued that it's not adequate time as provided for in the constitution.

The mask of "justice" has completely fallen. Monday's court proceedings in the high-profile, politically motivated treason case against our leaders, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale have made one thing clear that this has never been a prosecution but a weaponized persecution and the court is acting as an active accomplice.

Justice Baguma had previously ordered the prosecution to provide full disclosure by Friday last week. The state deliberately disobeyed this order. It was only yesterday, inside the courtroom that they were finally forced to serve the defense with the identities of previously concealed witnesses.

​In a shocking display of bias, despite the state taking months to orchestrate this sham case which carries a potential death sentence, Justice Baguma gave the defense a mere 7 days to review, reply, and exhaust all witnesses and evidence before the June 8th preliminary hearing followed by the main trial on June 11th. How can a fair defense be prepared in just one week for a capital offense?

Our defense lawyers argued passionately that this ridiculous timeline violates Article 28(3)(c) of the Constitution regarding the right to adequate time for preparation. Dr. Besigye rightfully sought a Constitutional Court review to challenge these anomalies. Shamefully, Justice Baguma flatly declined the reference.

The judge ironically complained about "delays" in the case but who has caused these delays besides the state itself? The state spends weeks hiding witnesses and breaking rules, yet the defense is penalized and rushed into a legal ambush. When the court accommodates every act of state impunity while silencing every plea from the defense, it ceases to be a temple of justice and becomes a tool of regime oppression.

The People’s Front for Freedom maintains that these charges are entirely politically motivated. The regime is desperately using the judiciary to silence leaders who stand for the liberation of Uganda.

Our defense team is battle-ready, steadfast, and fully prepared to confront this injustice head-on. The spirit of true freedom will never be subverted.

Our Leaders Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale, now in prison for 19 months on false charges of Treason and misprison of Treason have finally been able to receive full disclosure of witnesses against them.

Disclosed evidence from witnesses the state had sought to conceal reveal that sanctioned General Abel Kandiho and imprisoned General James Birungi, currently in prison are among the five witnesses whose full details have been availed to Kizza Besigye and Lutale.

Both Abel Kandiho and James Birungi are former CMI chiefs, now remaned Defence Intelligence Security (DIS).

Others are Current CMI Chief Richard Otto, a mercenary Andrew Wilson Orlando and a businessman known as Barasa.

Tomorrow, Monday, 1st June 2026, our leaders Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale return to the High Court for pre-hearing before Justice Emmanuel Baguma.

​After the state’s cowardly attempt to hide witnesses collapsed and they withdrew their application, Justice Baguma ordered that they make full disclosure by last Friday. Will they play more games tomorrow? We are ready for them!

This is trial for Uganda’s democracy. We call upon all change seeking Ugandans, comrades and freedom fighters to pack the High Court tomorrow morning. Let’s stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our leaders.

Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale defence lawyers Martha Karua and Frederick Mpanga clashed with High Court judge Emmanuel Baguma over another bail application and on the issue of competences court assessors.

Martha Karua and Frederick Mpanga were trying to make a 4th attempt at applying for bail for Besigye and his co-accused Obeid Lutale.

But Emmanuel Baguma was not enthusiastic about it as much as he was uncomfortable with proposal to conduct background checks on the court assessors.

Besigye and Lutale have been in prison for 19 months charged with Treason while a year since they were committed in the High Court, trial has stalled.

Yesterday’s sudden U-turn by the State in the High Court is a massive victory for transparency, but more importantly, it exposes the absolute hollow nature of the state's case against our leaders, Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye and Comrade Obeid Lutale.

After desperately fighting to hide the identities of their six "main witnesses" behind a veil of secrecy and their safety, the prosecution has inexplicably withdrawn their witness protection application.

Justice Emmanuel Baguma rightly ordered the State to make full disclosure of all witness details by 5:00 PM TODAY, Friday. No more hiding. No more shadows.

These legal gymnastics confirm what we have maintained from day one; This is not a prosecution, it is a politically motivated persecution. It is a desperate attempt to weaponize the law to break the spirit of leaders who refuse to bow to oppression.

You can try to hide the truth, you can try to bury it in the dark, but it will always break through.

Government has withdrawn it's application for witness protection filed in the High Court to conceal identities of witnesses against our leaders Kizza Besigye and Obeid Lutale.

Prosecution had sought Court orders to conceal the identities of six main witnesses against Besigye and Lutale.

The withdrawal of the application means full disclosure will be made, and justice Emmanuel Baguma has ordered that full disclosure of all details of witnesses should be made by 5pm on Friday.

Tomorrow, Thursday, 28th May 2026, our leaders Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale will return to the High Court as their ongoing treason trial continues.

We know that true justice cannot be hidden forever. Protecting witness identities and throwing baseless charges at them will never erase the truth.
