OBITUARY, MAMA KALANGALA LAID TO REST IN LUWEERO ENDING HER EARTHLY JOURNEY AT 41

, joined the family of Late Hon. Hellen Naava Nakimuli the Orthodox Church community, National Unity Platform members, Secretariat led by secretary General Hon. David Lewis Rubongoya and Executive led by the acting President Madam Lina Zedriga, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi , Hon. Members of Parliament, Lord Mayor elect Ssaalongo Balimwezo Ronald Nsubuga, Elected City Councillors at all levels, Mayor elect Bukeni Ali Nubian li, and other categories of mourners at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Namungoona, for the memorial service of the deceased where Buganda Kingdom was represented by its Minister of Information, Mobilization, and Kingdom Owek. Later that afternoon, thousands of mourners gathered at Lunyolya in Bulemeezi, Luweero District for her final sendoff drawing the deceased’s curtain on a life defined by service, courage, and unity.
Born around 1985 in the Ssese Islands, Kalangala, Hon. Nakimuli rose to become a national voice for accountability and island communities. Her father, Oweek. Rev. fr. Christopher Walusimbi, eulogized her as a friendly, hardworking daughter who touched many souls across Uganda.
Though she served only one term in the 11th Parliament, her influence was far-reaching. She held two Shadow Minister Portfolios, where she championed transparency, responsible governance, and the plight of fishing communities on the islands, earning the name “Mama Kalangala.”
A multi-talented leader, Hon. Nakimuli captained Parliament’s volleyball team to back-to-back championships at the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games. She also played netball and basketball, using sport to mentor youth and build bridges.
Culturally, she served as Assistant Treasurer of the Fumbe Clan in Ssese, blending tradition with modern leadership.
In his tribute at Kavule speaker Luyombya Godfrey echoed the deceased’s rallying call against injustice: “Silence in the face of wrongdoing is itself another form of death.” Drawn from her last public address during the Kabaka’s birthday prayers at Namungoona.
In his speech the President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Bobi Wine praised the late as steadfast in transparency and responsible governance, marking it as a great loss to the party and struggle to liberate Uganda calling on other leaders to emulate her committed character.
The 41-year-old legislator died suddenly on Sunday, 19th April 2026, following complications from surgery at Alexandra medical on Yusuf Lule Road, Kampala. Hon. Nakimuli is survived by her only biological child, Meraline Namirimu Ssuubi, an S1 student at Kibuli SS.
