Today, on the Day of the African Child, we honor the resilience of Africa's youth and advocate for their fundamental rights.

The 2026 theme focuses on a critical foundation for development: “Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa.”

Investing in sustainable WASH infrastructure is a strategic necessity that directly drives progress:

1. Improves health outcomes by preventing preventable diseases.
2. Increases school attendance, particularly for young girls.
3. Fosters economic equity across rural and urban communities.

Honoring the legacy of the 1976 Soweto Uprising requires actionable commitment. We must prioritize child-responsive, climate-resilient policies to secure a prosperous future for the continent.
