Through the Amplifying Consumer Voice in a Changing Food Environment project, PANITA, in collaboration with BBC Media Action (BBCMA), convened Members of Parliament from the project implementing constituencies Moshi MC, Pemba, Newala TC, and Makete together with members of the Parliamentary Group on Nutrition, Food Security and Children’s Rights (PGNFSCR), government officials.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss how changing food environments are influencing consumer choices, nutrition, and overall health outcomes.
It played an important role in raising policymakers’ awareness of the growing impact of unhealthy food marketing, limited access to healthy foods, and the effects of these challenges on vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. It also created an opportunity to bring evidence and lived experiences from communities into national policy dialogue.
We expect this engagement to strengthen parliamentary commitment to promoting healthier food environments, support evidence-based food policies and regulations, enhance oversight of food-related policies, and champion actions that protect consumers and improve nutrition outcomes across Tanzania.
Together, we can ensure that every Tanzanian has access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food.
