United Tansania e. V. 🌍 🐾 Hyena Conservation in Tanzania
🙋‍♂️ 🌟 Perfect for wildlife enthusiasts making a difference Our aims are:
1. Determination of their home range
5.

We are an NGO in Tanzania working on hyena conservation and human-hyena conflict mitigation. We are located at Lake Eyasi which is in the Northern part of Tanzania, directly bordering Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With the use of wildlife surveying through track and camera trap surveys we can use photo-ID to identify individuals to understand Lake Eyasi's hyena population, their home ranges and po

ssible conflict hotspots. Through our education and awareness program we can work with the local communities to support the human carnivore co-existence by empowering local communities. Feasibility study to establish a program on striped hyena
2. Determination of hyena population density and their geographical distribution
3. Determination of clan sizes and their geographical distribution
4. Identification of hotspot areas for Human-Hyena-conflict
6. Workshops on awareness for the concerned communities and educational training at schools

In March we introduced you to Prospa. This little girl tragically lost her mother and is being raised by her grandmother, in one of the villages close to our camp.

When we shared that we were financially supporting Prospa with all the essentials, two lovely women from the United States came forward and wanted to start a monthly donation to continue the support. We have now successfully set up a bank account for Prospa to make that possible. From this account, she will receive a monthly amount to cover all her costs, and the rest she will get access to when she turns 18.

We would like extend a massive thank you to Natalie and Kenji for donating 100 USD monthly to support Prospa!

Scenes from the monthly market in Kisimangeda yesterday 🐮✨️

While smaller markets happen within villages more frequently, once a month this larger market occurs. Numerous people from different tribes, like the Datoga, Maasai, and Iraqw, come together to buy or sell a variety of things, but most notably for livestock.

Happy International Day of Biological Diversity! 🌍

A reminder to celebrate and cherish all of nature’s diversity. It’s beauty, resilience, and how remarkably connected it all is. And that it includes these vastly misunderstood predators.

Hyenas are vital to maintaining healthy ecosystems. Swipe through to see how they act as nature’s cleanup crew, help with nutrient cycling, and balance food webs! True biodiversity means protecting all of it, including those with a undeserved „bad“ reputation. 🐾🦴

Today is World Bee Day 🐝

A great time to stop and appreciate everything they do, from supporting food systems to keeping ecosystems healthy, their impact on the planet is far from small.

We are grateful for the delicious honey we have successfully harvested with help and invaluable insight from the Hadzabe.

There are no words to describe the heartbreak we are feeling right now. On Saturday, May 16th, our beloved Bruno was suddenly taken from us far too soon. He was only 1.5 years old, and we only had one short year together, but he left a giant paw print on our hearts.

Bruno wasn’t just a dog; he was an irreplaceable part of our team and our daily life. He was always around us—incredibly affectionate, endlessly curious, and full of a playful energy that brightened even the hardest days in the field.

To wake up and see his empty corner, to miss his morning greeting, is a pain that is hard to put into words. He is missed more than we can say.

Thank you, Bruno, for a year full of unconditional love and joy. You will always be part of our team. Rest in peace, Bruno. 🐾🖤

More than just an experience. This is real impact. 🌍

The „next step“ we’ve been talking about? It’s officially happening. We’ve secured our first GPS collar thanks to the amazing success of our recent Charity Safari Auction!

Soon, we’ll be heading into the field for deployment—and we’re taking a few of you with us. We are launching a special program for those who want to be part of our conservation mission on the ground.

Want to make a real difference? Keep your eyes on this space. Details dropping soon. 🐾✨
