Ce 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢 𝟏𝟎 𝐣𝐮𝐢𝐧 a été organisé le 𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐝’𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐱 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐱 𝐝𝐞 𝐥’𝐈𝐅𝐄𝐀, où nous avons eu l’honneur et le plaisir d’accueillir Madame la Consule générale de France à Istanbul, 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧. Nous la remercions chaleureusement pour ses mots de bienveillance à l’égard de l’Institut et de son équipe 🙏

C’était également l’occasion pour notre Directeur, 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐮𝐝, de fêter en avance son pot de départ, puisqu’il reste à nos côtés jusqu’au 31 aôut 2026. Bager Akbay: Artist, Designer, Educator. Storyteller of Robot Poet Deniz Yilmaz. Bager's artworks are exhibited in Ars Electronica, Todays Art and Transmediale festivals. He is the co-author of Programming Scratch for Kids, co-founder of Iskele47 Studio and co-curator of Istanbul Maker Faire. Bager is currently on the board of Amber Platform which hosts art and technology festivals since 2007 and Baska Bir Okul Mumkun NGO which works in the democratic school movement. Currently teaching Todays Art History at Istanbul Mimar Sinan University, Marmara University, Nesin Art Village, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art and Programming for Puppeteers at Berlin Ernst Busch University and running an “Art Talk Show” at FLU TV.

Emine Öztaner: She is a faculty member in the Department of History at Ibn Haldun University in Istanbul. She received her PhD from the Department of Archaeology and History of Art at Koç University in 2025 with a dissertation focusing on the socio-spatial transformation of early modern Üsküdar through the case of Nurbanu Sultan's waqf neighborhood. Her research brings together Ottoman urban history, waqf studies, spatial history, and digital humanities. She has also conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley. Her current teaching and research interests include early modern Ottoman history, comparative urban history, digital methods in historical inquiry, and the critical use of artificial intelligence in the humanities.

Ce séminaire hybride (en ligne et en présentiel) est aussi bilocalisé : il connecte la scène parisienne de l’EHESS à celle, stambouliote mais francophone, de l’Institut français d’études anatoliennes. Le travail de domination politique et ses contestations, les compétitions pour le contrôle du champ du pouvoir comme les mobilisations sociales (mobilisations électorales, luttes pour la défense de l’environnement ou du patrimoine, ou encore pour les droits des travailleurs et les droits des femmes) seront étudiés dans une perspective sociohistorique. Il a principalement vocation à mettre en valeur des recherches récentes sur la Turquie contemporaine ainsi qu’à aborder les débats théoriques, historiographiques, voire épistémologiques qui traversent le champ des études sur la Turquie contemporaine, en particulier lorsqu’ils sont menés et publiés en langue turque.

This symposium concludes a 4-year research programme, entitled Space and Politics in the Capital City (SPACEPOL), directed by Gülçin Erdi and funded by the ANR (French National Research Agency). The research programme involved the international comparison of six capital cities (Moscow, Tehran, Ankara, Astana, Abu Dhabi, Cairo) to study the place and role of political power and global urban governance in the creation, making and development of capital cities.

Conférence autour du livre homonyme paru récemment aux Éditions Isis. Traduite en anglais, français et allemand entre 1734 et 1745, l’« Histoire de l’Empire ottoman » de Dimitrie Cantemir connaît sa première édition du texte original en latin seulement en 2002. L’édition parue cette année à Istanbul reprend la version française de 1743, dans une démarche qui vise à mettre en évidence les écarts entre le livre tel qu’il a été connu et tel qu’il a été conçu : malentendus, omissions, fidélités surprenantes. Réapparaissent ainsi les mots et fragments en turc ottoman et leur transcription, les portraits des sultans en couleur et même quelques anecdotes concernant l’ambassadeur du Roi-Soleil, que le traducteur essaie de cacher à ses lecteurs.

Il y a 2 ans, le 8 mai 2024, s’éteignait Jean-Louis Bacqué-Grammont (1941-2024), directeur de recherche émérite au CNRS et de l'IFÉA de 1984 à 1991. Le monde des études ottomanes et turques perdait alors l’une de ses figures emblématiques, tout autant pour son travail dans la recherche que pour les archives turques et ottomanes.

À l’occasion de l’installation de l’IFÉA dans ses nouveaux locaux début mai 2026, afin de rendre hommage à notre ancien directeur et de montrer la résilience de notre institut de recherche, nous souhaitons partager avec vous les témoignages d’amis et d’anciens collègues de Jean-Louis Bacqué-Grammont sur notre site internet.
