About Peace Corps El Salvador
The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, more than 240,000 Americans of all ages have responded to Kennedy’s call to serve and have helped communities in 161 countries. Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to support countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities. In September 2023, the Peace Corps announced the re-establishment of operations in El Salvador. Under the new agreement, Peace Corps is committed to working with the government of El Salvador to develop projects that support Community Economic Development and Youth initiatives. ✅Week 2 brought great energy and meaningful experiences for our trainees. They joined in on National Celebrations Day, taking part in activities that encouraged team bonding, cultural appreciation, and a strong sense of community.

Our Youth Development trainees reached a big milestone by meeting local leadership clubs for the first time. It gave them a great chance to practice how to connect and communicate with younger kids in a simple, supportive way.

Overall, Week 2 was a success! 👌🏼We’re excited to see what’s next! ✨

Torogoz 2 has officially completed its first week of Pre-Service Training! 💙

Trainees settled into experiencing Salvadoran warmth and daily life, also began strengthening their Spanish skills. They also started core sessions on youth development, community engagement, safety, and Peace Corps values.

With strong energy and a clear sense of purpose, Torogoz 2 is off to a fantastic start. We look forward to seeing them learn, grow, and explore the diversity of El Salvador.

We are excited to announce our very first Peace Corps Partnership Program project in El Salvador! Volunteer Corey is working closely with community leaders in Santa Ana Oeste to strengthen local economic development through tourism. This project will help support small businesses, highlight cultural and natural attractions, and create new opportunities for sustainable growth.

This initiative will benefit the community by expanding income‑generating activities, promoting local entrepreneurship, and enhancing long‑term economic resilience.

Torogoz 2 has landed! 🇸🇻
Our new cohort of Youth in Development and Community Economic Development trainees arrived in El Salvador this week, kicking off their Peace Corps journey. From airport smiles to their first pupusa night, where they even made their own pupusas!

This group is already embracing Salvadoran culture with heart and enthusiasm. Pre‑Service Training starts now!

Our team has officially completed the certification process to become Spanish Testers, an important milestone for Peace Corps El Salvador! 🎉📘
With this achievement, we are ready to evaluate the Spanish language proficiency of our Volunteers and fully prepared to welcome our next cohort, arriving in just a few days.

Keily captured this cooking class through her camera as she and Aaron teamed up for a fun English‑language culinary activity. Youth in her community’s specialized culinary track prepared traditional Salvadoran dishes and walked both Volunteers through each step. They shared stories, life skills, cooking tips — and of course, some very delicious food! 👩‍🍳✨
