PUBLIC STATEMENT

I have taken note of a fabricated story
circulating on social media alleging that I have
been denied access to H.E. the President by the
Executive Director in the Office of the President,
Hon. Deng Wal Achien, and that I am considering
resignation.

I reject these malicious lies in the strongest
possible terms.

There is absolutely no truth whatsoever to these
allegations. At no point has Hon. Deng Wal
Achien ever denied me access to H.E. the
President. The story is a complete fabrication,
concocted by individuals whose only objective is
to spread misinformation, create unnecessary
speculation, and undermine those committed to
serving our country.

The equally ridiculous claim that I am
contemplating resignation is entirely false. I
remain fully focused on my responsibilities as
Minister of Environment and Forestry and on
supporting the implementation of the
Government's priorities under the leadership of
H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

I also urge the public to treat with extreme
caution the growing trend of fake news being
published by obscure Facebook-based media
outlets that masquerade as legitimate news
organizations. Many of these pages exist solely
to generate clicks, comments, and shares to
monetize public outrage and controversy. They
are not driven by a commitment to truth or
responsible journalism.

I encourage all citizens to verify information
through official government channels and
credible media institutions rather than
anonymous sources and social media gossip.

Those who seek to divide us through falsehoods
will not succeed. Our focus remains on serving
the people of South Sudan.

Today, the Hon. Minister met with Tong Deng Anei, Isaac Liapwel, Nhial Tit-Mamer, and Nyamach Hoth Mai of White Nile and Sudd Center on a courtesy call to discuss strengthening environmental research, policy support, and accreditation pathways to access climate financing.

The Minister presided over and officially launched the Enhancing Climate Resilience in Flood-Prone Areas in Northwestern South Sudan (ECRF) USD 50 Million project today - South Sudan’s first single-country Green Climate Fund programme.

A major step from fear to resilience, strengthening communities against climate shocks while building stability and peace. Full speech to be posted shortly.

The Hon. Minister held a productive meeting with Dr. Daniel Akech Thiong, CEO of Functor Consulting, and Martin Wek Tong, Strategic Advisor to the Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs.

Discussions focused on how Functor Consulting can support the Ministry’s hybrid approach to strengthening institutional capacity and enforcement mechanisms to better protect South Sudan’s environment while expanding socio-economic opportunities for citizens.

The meeting also explored pathways to unlock international climate finance, including advancing the accreditation of a national environmental authority and supporting indigenous South Sudanese NGOs to achieve accreditation.

Dr. Thiong pledged to provide technical expertise, while the Hon. Minister reaffirmed his political support to fast-track the enabling law and establishment of a South Sudan Environmental Authority.

Today, the Hon. Minister convened a strategic meeting with the Acting Undersecretary for Environment, the Undersecretary of Forestry, the Head of the Technical Advisory Committee in the Office of the Minister, and a group of Technical Consultants from the private sector.

The meeting focused on fast-tracking institutional strengthening and enforcement capacity to enhance environmental protection in South Sudan, while unlocking socio-economic opportunities for citizens across the sector.

The Hon. Minister of Environment and Forestry today received the UNHCR Regional Representative, Mr. Mathew Brook, and the UNDP Regional Representative, Mr. Mohamed Abshir, for updates on ongoing and proposed environmental and resilience projects. Discussions highlighted the recently announced Green Climate Fund (GCF) project valued at USD 50 million, with an additional USD 2 million in co-financing from the Government of Japan, targeting climate resilience in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap States.

The meeting also addressed upcoming opportunities under GEF-8, the development of a new USD 42 million GCF project, and emerging priorities such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and carbon markets. The delegation further presented a proposal, through UNDP, for a USD 10 million, three-year programme to support communities in Upper Nile. The Ministry welcomed the continued partnership and emphasized the importance of aligning these initiatives with a clear national strategy to deliver tangible benefits for communities across South Sudan.
