At this moment I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Commissioner-General Hon. Amb. Moun Deng Ajuet for the trust and confidence placed in me to serve as Commissioner for the Customs Division of the South Sudan Revenue Authority.
The Customs Division is at the heart of trade facilitation and revenue collection. I call on all importers, exporters, and taxpayers to comply fully with customs laws and ensure that duties are paid promptly. Compliance reduces delays, strengthens border control, and supports the smooth movement of goods and services across our nation.
The South Sudan Revenue Authority has now fully moved to digitization. Every single coin of customs duty must be paid through the secure e-Tax system. Manual cash collection is no longer accepted. This digital transformation ensures transparency, accountability, and efficiency in revenue management.
I strongly warn against smuggling and other illegal practices that undermine customs regulations. Smuggling harms legitimate trade, weakens our economy, and deprives the nation of the revenue needed to build essential infrastructure. Respecting customs laws ensures fair competition, strengthens trust in our systems, and protects the integrity of our borders.
The taxes we collect are not just numbersโthey are the backbone of national development. Customs revenue finances roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other public infrastructure that directly improve the lives of our citizens.
