OBITUARY

Friday 14th March 2025;
H. E. Prof. James Wani Igga, former Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman and Secretary General passed condolences to the bereaved family of late Hon. Prof. Philip Yona Jambi for the passing on of their beloved father and mentor on Wednesday 12th March 2025 in Juba.

H. E. Prof. Igga described late Yona as a great nationalist and patriotic person with distinct personality and character.
Social and political contributions by late Hon. Prof. Yona shall remain in the hearts and memories of South Sudanese.

The Lord has given and the Lord has taken to eternity, may His name be glorified.
Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace, Amen!

Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman, sworn in as SPLM Secretary General.

Tuesday 25th February 2025;
The SPLM Chairman H. E. Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit has officiated the swearing in of the SPLM senior cadres to various positions in the National Secretariat, National Liberation Council and State Chairpersons.

In his remarks, Cde. SPLM Chairman stated the appointment of Cde. Dr. Wani Igga to the position of the SPLM Secretary General is not a demotion but instead to strengthen the party. For the SPLM led government to be strong, it needs party to be strong. Urging the leadership not to allow the historical party to disintegrate in their hands.

In his address after the swearing in ceremony, Cde. Prof. Wani Igga stated quoted,
“Comrade Chairman, me being one of the founding fathers like most survivors of PMHC members, of this gigantic Party, permit me to make it crystal clear to all cadres, that, as a principled member of the leadership of this Party, the recent changes in the executive wing of the government, do not negatively cause an earthquake.

My utmost allegiance to your leadership and thus, our dear party must remain unshakable. Comrades, nothing will change my long loyalty and patriotism to this nation, people and the gallant strugglers, after the hard 41 years of unbearable sufferings, sacrifices and agonies. Moreover, some of us are still energetic enough to chase even antelopes.”

Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman has accepted the additional position of the SPLM Secretary General for the welfare and unity of the SPLM Mighty, revolutionary and historical Party.

Calls on all the SPLM Members across the nation and in the Diaspora to put national, party and public interests than self.

The swearing in ceremony to be presided over by H.E. Cde. Salva Kiir Maryardit, SPLM Chairman and President of the Republic of South Sudan on Tuesday 25th February 2025 at the SPLM House- Juba.

Thereafter the swearing in ceremony, Cde. Gen. Prof. Wani Igga, shall officially be addressed as “SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman and Secretary General”.

Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga (PhD) Served both positions before as the SPLM Vice Chairman and Secretary General

Former Vice President Gen. Prof. James Wani Igga served both positions at one time as the SPLM Vice Chairman, Secretary General and Chairman of Political Affairs Commission in the Movement.

Cde. Prof. Wani Igga was elected the 1st SPLM Secretary General as well as the Secretary for Finance from 1994 to 2002. In early 2002, Cde Igga was lifted up to the position of the Vice Chairman Dr. John Garang De Mabior next to Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit 2nd in command when the Mass defection happened in 1991 that led to the split of the movement.

Being in the two positions, Cde. Igga was able to administer the SPLM till the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in Nairobi Kenya on the 9th January 2005, paving way for the total freedom for the people of Southern Sudan.

This book is the 2nd Book out of the 12th books written by Prof. Dr. James Wani Igga at the time he was SPLM Secretary General as well as the Vice Chairman. Thus, the book provides evidence for doubting Thomases as being documented.

Cde. Igga relinquished the position of the Secretary General of the party after late Chairman Dr. John Garang took over as the Sudan 1st Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan in July 2005 before his tragic death in a helicopter crash.

Thereafter, Cde. Igga remained as the Vice Chairman and Pagan Amum became the SPLM Secretary General deputised by two SPLM Deputies for Northern and Southern Sectors.

In 2007, Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the SPLM Chairman made internal reshuffle in the SPLM structure appointing three Deputies to the SPLM Chairman and these were Dr. Riek Macher Teny, Cde. James Wani Igga and Malek Agar and the leadership status quo was maintained during the SPLM 2nd National Convention.

In conclusion, political party should not be managed by our own behaviour, interest or feelings. Political parties are governed by principles, doctrine and ideology enshrined in a party constitution. Well trained political cadres doesn’t oppose, object or confront decisions of a leader. A true cadre accepts party’s assignment. Political parties ruled by egos leads to disintegration, rebellion and opposition as we have seen in the history of the SPLM Movement.
To be appointed in either government or political party position is not a right but a privilege and rewards.

H. E. Prof. James Wani Igga, Former Vice President of the Republic and Chairman of Economic Cluster had not issued any official statement in regards to his appointment as the SPLM Secretary General.

Prof. Wani Igga had accepted the removal from the position of the Vice President of the Republic and Chairman of Economic Cluster as being the normal routine in the governments worldwide and H. E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan is exercising his constitutional duties.

The appointment to the position in the party has nothing to do with demotion or promotion but it’s all about party discipline and obedience for a truly trained political cadre.

Former Vice President Prof. Wani Igga is the SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman and SPLM Secretary General Designate.
The official statement will come out when the SPLM leadership meet.

Thus; treat all information trending in social media as false and fabricated news tend to create hatred and divisions among the public by the enemies of peace.
