𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟐𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak, on Wednesday met with delegates from the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) to discuss possible partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and strengthen coordination efforts.

The Head of Delegates appreciated the minister for granting them time and highlighted the need for stronger engagement between NSIF, NGOs, and the government. The delegation noted the challenges posed by limited resources and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to improve support and coordination.

During the meeting, the delegates proposed organizing a workshop involving NGOs and government institutions to discuss partnership frameworks, social insurance benefits, and coordination mechanisms. They confirmed that an official invitation for the workshop would be submitted, while the date remains open pending ministerial approval.

Minister Albino Akol Atak reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting NSIF initiatives and pledged close cooperation in coordinating with NGOs. “We will reiterate our support as the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. We will work hand in hand, and we will coordinate you with NGOs,” the minister stated.

The minister further directed the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) leadership to monitor NGO activities and stressed the need for greater efforts to strengthen NSIF programs. He also underscored the importance of employee awareness on risks, savings, and social benefits, noting that the proposed workshop would help provide further clarity and classifications for future cooperation initiatives.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with NSIF and NGOs to strengthen coordination, improve social protection programs, and enhance cooperation for the benefit of employees and vulnerable communities across South Sudan.

𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀 — The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP) aimed at strengthening humanitarian cooperation and enhancing coordinated efforts to support vulnerable communities across South Sudan.

The meeting focused on deepening the long-standing partnership between the government and WFP in addressing the country’s growing humanitarian needs caused by conflict, displacement, food insecurity, flooding, and climate-related shocks.

Mutinta Chimuka WFP Country Director reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued cooperation with the government. She emphasized the importance of strengthening food security, sustaining nutrition support, delivering food and non-food items, and building long-term resilience for affected communities.

Minister Akol welcomed the new WFP Country Director to South Sudan and expressed appreciation for WFP’s continued efforts in reducing food insecurity among communities affected by floods, conflict, and returnee crises.

He further stressed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for humanitarian actors to operate effectively, noting that challenges facing aid operations can be resolved through dialogue and stronger partnerships.

The minister also called on WFP to continue contributing to improving the humanitarian and economic situation in South Sudan through enhanced cooperation and sustained support to affected communities.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for humanitarian actors to operate effectively, stressing that existing challenges can be resolved through dialogue, stronger partnerships, and continued cooperation between the government and humanitarian partners.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟏𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — Hon. Albino Akol Atak, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, on Monday held a meeting with Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, the Acting Humanitarian Coordinator, to discuss flood response planning, humanitarian preparedness, and support for communities affected by flooding across the country.

Dr. Humphrey Karamagi appreciated the cooperation achieved following previous engagements between humanitarian partners and the ministry, noting that access restrictions previously reported in some areas had improved significantly. He also said challenges related to taxes on hired vehicles transporting food and non-food items had been addressed after earlier consultations.

The Acting Humanitarian Coordinator briefed the minister on flood response planning and analysis, emphasizing the need for medical support, advocacy, and urgent humanitarian assistance for flood-affected communities. He further warned that flooding continues to expose thousands of people to diseases such as malaria, cholera, and other waterborne infections, revealing that approximately 376,000 people were affected by floods last year.

Hon. Albino Akol Atak thanked humanitarian partners for their continued support and stressed the importance of prioritizing practical actions over promises in responding to floods and other humanitarian crises. He called for timely updates, stronger coordination, consultations with state authorities, and early preparedness to reduce diseases, deaths, and hunger among vulnerable populations.

The minister also highlighted the importance of providing food and non-food items to affected communities and disclosed that there's a need to establish discussions on MOU regarding the release of water from dams in coordination with Uganda and Sudan as part of regional flood mitigation efforts.

Minister Akol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening humanitarian coordination, improving flood preparedness, and working closely with partners to support vulnerable communities across South Sudan.

Albino Akol Atak, on Friday held discussions with a delegation from the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) led by its Director, Pastor Arinze Emmanuels, aimed at strengthening humanitarian cooperation and development support for vulnerable communities across South Sudan. The meeting focused on building stronger partnerships to address the country’s growing humanitarian needs and improve the welfare of displaced and affected populations.

During the meeting, Pastor Arinze Emmanuels briefed the Minister on COFI’s humanitarian activities across Africa, emphasizing the foundation’s belief that “Africans can build Africa” through unity, collaboration, and locally driven solutions. He explained that the organization operates a global humanitarian network that provides relief assistance and supports community development initiatives in several African countries.

The COFI Director also expressed the foundation’s interest in expanding its operations into South Sudan through projects such as free schools, community health clinics, and business partnerships aimed at empowering vulnerable communities. He noted that COFI already has partnerships and humanitarian programs in the Central African Republic and is prepared to establish similar initiatives in South Sudan to support long-term development and social welfare.

Minister Albino Akol welcomed the delegation and appreciated the foundation’s willingness to support people affected by humanitarian crises in the country. He stressed that strong partnerships and international solidarity remain essential in responding to the challenges facing South Sudan, including floods, drought, disease outbreaks, climate change, and conflicts that continue to affect livelihoods and infrastructure in many parts of the country.

The Minister further highlighted the situation in refugee camps, noting that Gorom Refugee Camp remains one of the most congested camps in South Sudan, while Maban Refugee Camp is currently the largest & congested refugee camp in the country. He also revealed government plans to establish an emergency response center aimed at improving disaster preparedness and reducing the impact of emergencies before they escalate.

Minister Akol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with humanitarian partners and organizations like COFI to strengthen emergency response efforts, support displaced populations, and promote sustainable development across South Sudan.

𝐖𝐄𝐃𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐃𝐀𝐘, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟏𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀 — The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, today met with the Governor of Upper Nile State, H.E. James Koang, in Juba to discuss the humanitarian situation and challenges affecting communities across Upper Nile State.

The meeting focused on the growing humanitarian needs in the state, including hunger, diseases, displacement, insecurity, and challenges facing humanitarian workers. Governor James Koang said many communities continue to suffer due to conflict and instability, noting that Ulang County was heavily affected after being looted by opposition forces last year, leaving civilians in critical conditions.

Governor Koang assured the Ministry of his administration’s commitment to cooperate with humanitarian organizations and ensure safe access for aid workers and civilians across the state. He further pledged to engage local communities in dialogue to resolve grievances and promote peace, stability, and unity in Upper Nile State.

Hon. Albino Akol Atak congratulated Governor Koang on his appointment and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the state government and humanitarian partners. He warned that severe flooding is expected this year and urged state authorities to provide early warning information to communities at risk, especially in vulnerable areas hosting large numbers of IDPs and refugees.

The Minister also called for stronger government protection for humanitarian workers and raised concerns over taxation imposed on companies contracted to deliver humanitarian assistance.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue supporting the people of Upper Nile State through humanitarian coordination, protection of aid workers, and collaboration with partners and donors to ensure assistance reaches vulnerable communities across the state.

The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, media managers, and journalists from across Juba in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening cooperation between government institutions and the media fraternity.

In his remarks, Hon. Albino Akol commended the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, for organizing the event, describing it as an important platform for dialogue, partnership, and mutual understanding between the government and the media.

He emphasized that the media remains a key partner in promoting peace, democracy, accountability, transparency, and public awareness in South Sudan, stressing that constructive engagement between the two sides is essential for national stability and development.

The Minister also highlighted the critical role of the media in humanitarian response and disaster management, noting that timely and accurate information helps save lives during emergencies such as floods, droughts, disease outbreaks, displacement, and food insecurity, while also calling for continued professionalism, ethical reporting, and stronger cooperation in serving the public interest.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟕, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, on Thursday received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to South Sudan, H.E. Aleksandr Kosmodemiyanskiy, in his office in Juba for discussions focused on strengthening humanitarian cooperation and support for vulnerable communities across the country.

During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador, H.E. Aleksandr Kosmodemiyanskiy, expressed appreciation for the reception and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to working closely with South Sudan in addressing humanitarian challenges. He noted that Russia values its relations with South Sudan and is considering expanding its diplomatic presence through the opening of an embassy in Juba.

He further emphasized that both countries should enhance cooperation in responding to the growing needs of affected populations, describing the relationship as one of friendship and solidarity, while stressing the importance of supporting communities in crisis.

Minister Akol welcomed the Ambassador and appreciated Russia’s engagement, noting that South Sudan continues to face severe humanitarian pressures caused by floods, conflict, and displacement. He highlighted that areas such as Upper Nile and parts of Bahr el Ghazal remain heavily affected by recurring floods that destroy homes, schools, and livelihoods.

The Minister further appealed for stronger international support, revealing that millions of people are currently in need of humanitarian assistance, while the government continues to implement durable solutions aimed at resettling displaced persons and improving early warning systems to reduce the impact of future disasters.

The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with international partners, including the Russian Federation, to enhance humanitarian response, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure sustainable recovery across the country.

The meeting highlighted continued cooperation between the Government and the United Nations in responding to urgent humanitarian needs, including flooding, the impact of the conflict in neighboring Sudan, internal displacement, and worsening economic conditions affecting vulnerable communities across the country.

Madam Anita Kiki Gbeho emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and solution-oriented engagement to support affected populations. 𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, on Wednesday met with a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and a group of donors to discuss ongoing humanitarian efforts in South Sudan.

The ICRC head of delegation briefed the Minister on its ongoing operations and funding challenges, highlighting the importance of prioritizing critical interventions and strengthening resilience programs for affected communities.

Minister Akol welcomed the delegation and appreciated their continued support, noting that the country is facing serious challenges including conflict, displacement, flooding, and climate change. He emphasized the need for stronger coordination and sustained donor backing to respond effectively to growing humanitarian needs.

Hon. Akol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the ICRC and partners to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable populations across the country.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the government, ICRC, and donors to address the worsening humanitarian situation and support long-term recovery efforts.

𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟔, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚 – The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Albino Akol Atak, today held a high-level meeting in his office in Juba with humanitarian partners and the Acting Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations in South Sudan, Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, to discuss the worsening humanitarian situation in Akobo County.

The meeting focused on the alarming conditions facing affected populations, with both government and humanitarian actors expressing deep concern over rising needs driven by large-scale displacement, food insecurity, disease risks, and limited access to essential services.

Humanitarian partners and donors have warned of a rapidly worsening crisis in Akobo, where about 200,000 people have been displaced, including over 100,000 into Ethiopia’s Tiergol. The area is at high risk of famine between April and July 2026, with key infrastructure such as Akobo Hospital damaged and humanitarian assets looted, raising serious protection concerns.

The response plan covers Akobo West and East, with major gaps in food, health, shelter, WASH, nutrition, and protection services. While some food distributions are ongoing, partners say assistance must be urgently scaled up before the rainy season.

Humanitarian agencies stressed they are ready to respond but need guaranteed security, safe access, and protection of staff and supplies. Priority needs include emergency food aid, health and nutrition support, clean water services, shelter, and protection for vulnerable groups, alongside expanded cash assistance where possible. They warned that insecurity and access restrictions are slowing life-saving operations, and urgent coordinated action is needed as conditions continue to deteriorate.

The Acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to strengthening coordination, mobilizing resources, and supporting the response to the unfolding crisis in Akobo.

The Minister acknowledged that there are still challenges affecting humanitarian access and operations, but assured partners that the government is actively working to address them through coordination with relevant institutions. He also pledged to engage his colleagues to strengthen support systems and improve working conditions for aid delivery. He further assured humanitarian actors of safe and free movement to enable them reach communities in need without fear or obstruction. He called for continued cooperation and strong partnership between the government and humanitarian organizations to ensure timely and effective delivery of assistance to vulnerable populations.
