The Name"KUSH"
Why don't we change the country name from its current name South Sudan, which is a geographical name, to its ancient name Kush, and the people will be called Kush*tes, just as it was before so that we don't lose our identify?
Did you know that the word Khartoum given to Sudan capital city is actually a Dinka word? Khartoum comes from the two Dinka's words: "Car" and "Toum." The Dinka's word "Car" or "Kar" means separation of the two and the word "Toum" means the meeting points of two. It is the meeting points of where the White Nile and Blue Nile meet or converge together. Hence the word Car-toum, and immigrant Arabs came and called it Khartoum. But it is actually a Dinka word, which means that we are the original inhabitants of that land. We are the original Sudaneses and ancient Egyptians but we have been pushed back from our land in Egypt up to the southern part of the country region, today calls South Sudan. The Anglo-Egyptian Sudan means that these countries [South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt] were one country before the British condominium rule in 1880s to 1900s.
Greek comes and calls us Nilotic. The word Nilotic is derived from the word Nile, because we have been living on the Nile river for a million of years.
This river, the Nile, and our identify as Nilotic of the Nile, has also been stated in the bible.
The book of Isaiah 18:1-4 in the bible says, "Woe to the land of whirring wings along the rivers of Cush, which sends envoys by sea in papyrus boats over the water. Go, swift messengers, to a people tall and smooth-skinned, to a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers. All you people of the world, you who live on the earth, when a banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and when a trumpet sounds, you will hear."
That is the bible saying that we are "tall and smooth-skinned," we are "feared far and wide," and live along the river of Kush [Nile] or in its ancient name Hapi River.
