What began as a father’s desire to better understand his son’s autism became a powerful journey of growth, learning and advocacy! 💙

We are deeply inspired by the story of Jason Tan, who completed a workplace learning attachment at Rainbow Centre as part of the Specialist Diploma in Applied Autism Studies at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) 🌈

Through his attachment with us, he gained valuable insights that enriched both his parenting journey and his ability to support and advocate for others in the disability community 📚✨

Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door, especially when it comes to navigating the world independently.

Through our learning journeys with SMRT for all our three SPED schools, our students can take learning into the community and build practical commuting skills that matter in everyday life.

In real-world settings, our students can apply what they’ve learnt in school: topping up their cards, tapping in, riding the train, and navigating the shared public spaces.

We are grateful to SMRT for creating these opportunities and journeying with us to open up more possibilities for our students, one ride at a time. 💙

Partnerships like these play an important role in shaping a more inclusive society. Beyond infrastructure, it is the people that enable our students to move through the community with greater confidence!

A day of glam and glowing smiles 😄❤️🫶

On Mother's Day, five of our Rainbow Centre mums were treated to a special day of pampering as part of Tay Ying's Mother's Day Makeover Event at Urbanhair by Ginrich! 😻

As full-time caregivers, these mothers pour endless love, strength, and dedication into caring for their children every single day. This special makeover experience was a small yet meaningful opportunity for them to relax, feel cared for, and simply enjoy being celebrated for all that they do 🤍

We’re incredibly grateful to share that the flowers are officially sold out! 🌸 Thank you to everyone who supported this meaningful initiative, and helped make it such a heartwarming success.

We’re wrapping up World Autism Awareness month with a look back at ‘A Good Morning with RC’, a celebration of our community that makes Rainbow Centre what it is.

While the morning anchored on helping our families build post-18 networks at the Connected Communities Fair, it was a wonderful meetup among staff, caregivers and alumni.

Harshini Terrence D’Silva, Margaret Drive School graduate, who returned to conduct an arts workshop for RC students, shares: “Everyone has different needs, so just be understanding.”

Her words remind us of the importance of understanding and inclusion, values that we continue to carry. From learning facilitator to leading her own classroom, Nurul Adlina Ahmad, Teacher at Admiral Hill School, shows what a meaningful career in special education can look like when purpose meets opportunity!

When she joined us in 2021, she was new to the special education sector. Over time, through structured training, guidance from colleagues, and the opportunity to pursue her Diploma in Special Education, she built both her confidence and her practice as an educator. Today, she leads her own class.

Through it all, her purpose has stayed the same. It is what continues to guide her work in the classroom and her approach to each student. Adlina shares, “While the work can be challenging, it is also very rewarding, and you are constantly learning and growing alongside your students.”

Her story reflects the kind of journey we hope to enable, where people are supported to grow in capability, take on new responsibilities, and build meaningful careers in special education.

Clay, creativity, and a little chaos 🤣🌀

Take a look at some highlights from Sara and Adam’s very first pottery experience – filled with curiosity, laughter, and meaningful learning! 🎨✨

❗️Sara and Adam are part of Watch Out, World! (WOW!) 🌍, a pilot enrichment programme to provide talented students with stretch opportunities outside curriculum. With guidance from their mentor, Candy from Dream Art Studio, they learnt wheel throwing, and how to carefully shape their own unique pieces from start to finish 💫

By the end of the programme, they created a variety of pottery works, and even led a hands-on workshop for their family members and staff, guiding them in making their own pieces 👏
A heartfelt thank you to Teacher Candy for her patience and for creating a safe, inclusive space where students with diverse learning needs can explore, express themselves, and thrive 💛

Well done to Sara and Adam too for stepping out of their comfort zones and building confidence in a brand new area of interest! 🙌

Our A Good Morning with Rainbow Centre community open house on 28 March was a berry special one, made even better by the community that came together! 💙

Held in light of World Autism Awareness Month, the morning brought families, partners and friends together to connect, learn and reflect on what the Post-18 journey can look like for persons with disabilities.

Through the Connected Communities Fair, many of our students and families had the chance to speak with our adult disability partners, explore available support, and have conversations that we hope help with planning and decision-making beyond SPED graduation. The insightful workshops and educational talks were also an important part of the morning, adding depth to the conversations around post-18 pathways.

Thank you to our families and friends for spending your Saturday with us, and our lovely partners for journeying alongside the community. It was berry meaningful to gather, and we’re grateful to continue building these connections together! 🌈
