Was honoured to be the Guest of Honour for the opening of a row of refurbished shophouses at 111 Jalan Besar.

These 100-year old shophouses reflect Singapore's shared heritage. It is easy to tear down old buildings to rebuild newer ones; far harder (and more expensive) to restore them. I am glad URA has worked with the developer to take the harder path.

Many businesses have operated from these shophouses in the past. And a new generation will now be moving in. Jalan Besar GRC welcomes them and looks forward to their contribution to the vibrant tapestry in our community!

You can run, but you can’t hide from a quick neighborhood update! 😉 Keep an eye out for me next time you’re driving through McNair.

On a serious note, I am incredibly pleased to share that the new signalised junction at McNair will be fully operational by the end of May. It’s hard to believe it’s only been 7 months since we first announced this project.

My sincere thanks to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for their swift ex*****on, and to our residents for partnering with us to improve road safety.

I seek everyone’s patience as we get used to the new junction. Looking forward to smoother journeys ahead for everyone! 🚦🙌

Walking through Blk 4 Boon Keng Road, I was reminded that no matter how long I’ve been doing this, the warmth of our community never fails to lift my spirit, it simply doesn’t get any more rewarding than this.

Every conversation shared along the corridors brings a genuine sense of connection and comfort. It is these authentic, neighborly moments that truly define the spirit of Boon Keng and remind me of what makes our estate feel like home.

Thank you to all the residents who opened their doors and shared a warm smile or a kind word. Glad we got to talk about the Home Improvement Programme and Neighbourhood Renewal Programme!

Joined the Ministry of Manpower's annual workplan seminar in my role on the Government Parliamentary Committee for Manpower.

Brought back many memories, as I had served in the MOM ten years ago, from 2014-2016! Glad to see so many former colleagues still serving and growing.

In parliament last month, I had asked for some data from the Ministry of Finance on social mobility. And they kindly released it in response. This is the first chart. It shows that Singaporeans around my age cohort born to middle-income fathers had a very similar chance of ending in each income quintile. This shows that the middle class has not ossified in my generation.

And the chart complements the second chart, which was published earlier this year within MOF's Occasional Paper. This chart shows that Singaporeans around my age cohort born to lower-income fathers still had a good chance of ending in each income quintile, including the top one.

I'll be referring to these charts in a speech I'm giving tomorrow.
