My Ah Gong, 萧守良, on his birthday many years ago.

Born in Fuzhou, he fled the war to Xiamen and arrived in Singapore with no family and no friends here. He found his place as a streetside barber, setting up stall in a five-foot way opposite the Foochow Association. My mother brought my brother and me when we were young children for free haircuts. One style only: the crew cut 😊

Last week, I celebrated a different birthday. The Siow's Clan Guild Association (新加坡萧氏总会) turned 80.

Such clan associations are how newcomers like Ah Gong found their footing here. Singapore has changed since, and the role of the associations has changed with it. But there is still important work: helping new immigrants understand how we live here, helping Singaporeans get to know them, and keeping our history alive for a younger generation asking where they came from.

In Parliament, I was asked a specific question on whether Singapore Airlines’ investments in foreign associates would affect its ability to provide essential air services in Singapore.

There is no reason whatsoever to doubt SIA’s ability to deliver air services in Singapore. SIA's core business had one of its strongest years - record revenue, high operating profit margins, and a record number of passengers carried.

To continue to grow, SIA must invest overseas. Whether this investment in Air India proves valuable is for SIA to account to its shareholders. SIA is funding the investment out of its own balance sheet and has not requested for any capital from Temasek or the Government.

Happy to join SMRT for the launch of Bus 4.0 and met Bus Captains recognised as top performers under SMRT’s Safe Driving Incentive Programme.

Bus 4.0 uses technology and data (even gamification!) to help Bus Captains track their performance, improve their driving habits and make safer decisions on the road.

Throwback to celebrating the Foochow Association’s 115th anniversary.

My parents are both Foochow, but they didn’t teach me the language. I did grow up with the food though, including Foochow fishballs, red glutinous rice wine chicken and oyster cake, which I still love today.

Wishing the Foochow Association many more good years ahead!

很开心和福州乡亲一起庆祝会馆一百一十五周年。

我的父母都是福州人。虽然福州话我不会讲，但福州美食我很熟，例如福州鱼丸、红糟鸡、蚝饼。

祝福州会馆继续兴旺发展！

Someone turned her adventures at the pineapple playground 🍍 into a work of art! I have always said Tengah has the best playgrounds, and I am glad our young artists agree!

Congratulations to all 12 winners of the Loving CCK Art Contest, four of them from Brickland-Tengah.

The artworks will be on display at eight locations around Brickland-Tengah and at The Bricks. Do come and see!

Singapore and Brazil have long enjoyed strong transport ties, collaborating closely bilaterally and at international fora such as the International Maritime Organization - IMO and the ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization.

Signed an MOU with Mr Tomé Franca, Minister of Ports and Airports of Brazil, to establish the Brazil-Singapore Green and Digital Shipping Corridor. We will work together on zero or near-zero emission marine fuels and digital solutions for more efficient ports. 🇧🇷🇸🇬

Welcoming Mr Pang Kin Keong (left of first photo) as the new Chair of the LTA Board from 1 September 2026.

Mr Pang served as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Singapore from 2012 to 2017. I am pleased to be working with him again and to draw on his deep expertise as a public sector leader as we continue building a transport system that is efficient, sustainable, and people-centric.

I would also like to express my personal appreciation to Mr Alan Chan, the outgoing Chairman, who has led the LTA Board with great distinction over the past decade. Under Mr Chan’s leadership, our transportation network has grown significantly, and LTA has successfully navigated challenging periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain disruptions. In recognition of his contributions to LTA and to Singapore, Mr Chan was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in this year’s National Day Awards. The MOT Family is deeply grateful for his lasting contributions.
