Public Libraries Singapore

Public Libraries Singapore The official page for Public Libraries Singapore (PLS). Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Is this page part of the National Library Board (NLB)? Yikes!

The Public Libraries Singapore (PLS) provides a professional and engaging public library service to Singaporeans in their pursuit of lifelong learning and discovery through the network of 27 Public Libraries (including three regional libraries) located conveniently across Singapore. Yes, this page is part of NLB. We handle the public library pages and this is the main page for all public libraries in Singapore, thus it is a one-stop shop for all things related to the public library services and programmes. Please note that our branch pages will cease operations later this year, so follow this page for updates on our public libraries.

2. Is the library open today? Our public libraries are open daily from 10am to 9pm. Mall libraries in shopping malls open daily from 11am to 9pm. We are closed at 5pm on eves of Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and closed on Public Holidays.

3. Can I borrow books with my IC if I don’t have an account? You need to have a myLibrary ID to borrow books. Go to account.nlb.gov.sg to sign up for a myLibrary ID, it is quick and easy!

4. I am a foreigner; can I borrow books? You need to be a member and have a myLibrary account to borrow books but you need to bring along your IC or ez-link card to confirm your identity. Still unsure? Visit https://www.nlb.gov.sg/VisitUs/Membership.aspx

5. I can't seem to borrow books on overdrive or on the app, what do I do? Please PM us your name, myLibrary ID and a brief summary of the issue so that we can help. In the meantime you might want to try and find the physical copy of the book at the library while waiting.

6. How much do I have to pay if I don’t return a book on time? Overdue fines are charged at $0.15 per book/magazine/CD-ROM with accompanying book per day and $0.50 per audio-visual item per day.

7. Is there a dress code that I must follow? That’s up to you! All attires are welcome at the public libraries. You might like to bring a sweater, in case it gets chilly.

8. I am a visitor or general member of the public. Is it possible for me to use your library for research purposes? We offer a full range of digital and online library and multimedia services. You can access these digital resources and services at either the multimedia stations at libraries or via www.nlb.gov.sg.

9. Can I get Wi-Fi at the library? Yes, you can access the Internet through your laptops by selecting the "Wireless@SG" wireless network.

10. How is this page different from the public library pages or the NLB page? Good question! This is the centralised page for everything you need to know about the public libraries in a fun and engaging way. You can get the latest news on all your favourite programmes and services in one place. So do follow this page for updates on our public libraries. Ang Mo Kio Public Library
