Part 2 of our Food & Cultural Tour at Joo Chiat — and it was pure Peranakan magic. 🏮❤️
We gathered for a group photo against the colourful shophouses that make this neighbourhood so iconic, then wandered through streets adorned with vibrant murals that breathe life into Joo Chiat's rich history. 🎨
Of course, we couldn't skip the food. Ah Yee's Soon Kueh delivered on every level — where we tried the yam cake and pumpkin cake. A quick pause at Kopi Khoo (hole-in-the-wall coffee takeaway kiosk!) gave us the perfect breather. ☕
We also discovered Cake Inspiration, a delightful cake shop helmed by a young couple — a sweet reminder that Joo Chiat's food story is still being written by a new generation. 🍰
And we saved the best for last: Guan Hoe Soon Restaurant, serving Peranakan cuisine since 1953. Seventy years of heritage on a plate. 🥢

🍽️ We ATE our way through Joo Chiat yesterday! (Food & Cultural Tour Part I)
We started with the iconic Nyonya Bak Chang at Kim Choo Kueh Chang (plus a little kueh tasting session 🍡), followed by that soul-warming herbal broth at Sin Heng Claypot BKT, our taste buds were on a rollercoaster. We also ticked off two Dunman Food Centre legends—Say Seng’s Tau Kwa Pau (since 1959, what an icon!) and the crispy Gina’s Vadai (where our Gina finally met her name twin! 👯‍♀️).
