German aid is underway following the devastating flash floods in the Himalayan border region between Nepal and Tibet. The German government has pledged financial support and is co-funding the EU’s €2 million in emergency humanitarian aid, providing assistance through the Disaster Relief Fund of the International Red Cross & Red Crescent and the UN Emergency Fund (CERF).

German NGOs are also providing emergency assistance on the ground through local networks to deliver food, clean drinking water, medicines, and emergency shelter where help is needed most.

Germany stands ready to provide further assistance in cooperation with international partners. We express our deepest sympathy to all those affected.

gamescom 2026 really said: stop telling gamers to touch grass, they’re literally building civil society 😭🎮

The old cliché of a gamer locked in a dark room eating junk food? Officially canceled. With 40M+ players in Germany alone, gaming is right at the center of modern culture and turns out, it’s deeply meaningful for democracy too.

But keeping the digital playground safe isn’t optional. With EU rules like the Digital Services Act & the upcoming Digital Fairness Act, the focus is shifting to real consumer protection: tackling hate speech, eliminating dark patterns, protecting minors, and stopping extremist radicalization.

From Cologne to Bangkok, this conversation is also going global 🌐 gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show kicks off this 29 October to carry the momentum forward into Southeast Asia!

We now know that Russia is responsible for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig-Halle Airport. Russia's repeated hybrid attacks on Germany and Europe are unacceptable and will have consequences.

In response, the Federal Government is taking decisive action:
- The Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin, alleged operational bases for intelligence coordination, will be closed.
- Germany, together with its EU and NATO partners, will increase pressure on Russia's shadow fleet
- New EU listings of targeted individuals linked to hybrid attacks will be proposed.
- Entry controls for Russian nationals are being tightened further.

Russia's attack is part of a long series of attempts to destabilize, spread disinformation, issue threats, carry out acts of sabotage and commit aggression against Europe. Germany will continue to respond decisively to protect its population, democratic institutions and partners and resolutely support Ukraine in its defence against Russia's war of aggressions.

Iceland ≠ Greenland, and their EU situations are very much not the same. 🧊

Icelanders narrowly rejected reopening EU membership talks last weekend 😢. Yet Iceland is already closely connected to Europe. It is a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which means trade and people are free to move accross borders - but Iceland has no vote on EU policies and laws.

Greenland, meanwhile, has a different setup entirely: Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark with its own parliament and government. While Greenlanders retain full European Citizenship, they have an Overseas Country and Territory status with the European Union and remain outside the EU Single Market. 🙃

Same Arctic neighbourhood. Two totally different Europe plotlines. 🇮🇸🇬🇱

A giant cone full of goodies to kick off your first day of school? Germany said: absolutely. 🇩🇪🎓

Meet the Schultüte — a German tradition where kids get a colourful cone filled with sweets, school supplies and little surprises for their first day of school. 🍬📚

But what if you’re starting university? We gave the Schultüte a uni upgrade:

🍝 Mensa card — because student life runs on affordable meals
☕ Coffee — academic fuel, obviously
🪪 Studierendenausweis — your student ID, your new personality
🍫 Knoppers — emergency snack = non-negotiable
📓 Notebook — for notes, ideas and questionable doodles
🚆 Semesterticket — getting you from lecture hall to lecture hall
💻 Laptop — because somehow everything happens online now

What would you put in your Uni-Schultüte? 👀

You can have the coffee. ☕️
The fits. 👕
The weekend adventures. 🥾
And still waste less. ♻️

Because what we throw away doesn’t always stay away. Waste can break down into tiny particles, including microplastics, that can make their way into our soil, rivers and oceans — and eventually back into the ecosystems we depend on.

That’s why zero waste isn’t about being perfect. It’s about making small, everyday choices that add up.

Germany has been working on this too — from recycling and deposit-return systems to reusable alternatives and measures to reduce packaging waste.

The goal? Keep products and materials in use for longer, while keeping waste out of the environment. 🌱

Michael Jackson may be Hotel Adlon’s most viral guest for his balcony moment, but its connections to Asia go much further!

🎬 Michelle Yeoh In 2008, the Oscar-winning icon stopped by the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin for a promotional photocall for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

🥋 Jackie Chan In July 2010, Jackie Chan took to the rooftop of the China Club at Hotel Adlon for The Karate Kid press photos. Main-character energy, literally above Berlin.

🇮🇳 Sir Bhupinder Singh The Maharaja of Patiala was among the hotel’s distinguished visitors in the 1930s, proof that Adlon’s international guest list has been global for generations.

🇲🇲 Aung San Suu Kyi In 2014, Myanmar’s then-opposition leader visited the Hotel Adlon during an official diplomatic trip to Germany.

From film icons to royalty and world politics: Hotel Adlon’s story is much bigger than one famous balcony moment.

Cheap imports might feel like a win — until local jobs disappear. 👀

China’s industrial overcapacity and state-backed subsidies have a direct effect for economies across Asia - ultra-cheap goods are flodding markets, making it hard for local businesses to survive.

Germany’s message: competition should be fair, market-based, and built on shared rules — not export dumping.

The EU is stepping up trade partnerships with the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. Because trade should create jobs, not erase them.

Do you know when you’re actually looking at or interacting with AI? 🤖 That’s where the EU AI Act comes in. 🇪🇺

It’s the EU’s framework for regulating AI based on the risks it can pose, from low-risk everyday uses to systems that could seriously affect people’s rights and safety.

In simple terms: if you’re interacting with an AI system or seeing certain AI-generated or manipulated content, you should be able to know it.

So what does that mean for you? 👇

🤖 Talking to AI? You should know you’re not talking to a human.
🖼️ Seeing AI-generated or manipulated content? Certain content must be clearly identifiable as AI-generated or manipulated.
🔎 Why does it matter? Because you deserve to know what’s real, what’s AI-generated, and when AI is involved, so you can make informed choices.

AI isn’t going away. The goal is to make sure you’re not left guessing when it enters the picture.
