31 August 2026 | Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah
Topic: Jenayah

As part of the students’ Fiqh subject on Jenayah, Bro Azmi shared honestly about the consequences of committing crimes and how certain choices can eventually lead to imprisonment.

He spoke about his past—how a life of crime and the dangers of illegal substances turned him into someone he never imagined he would become. Along the way, he lost people, broke his family’s trust and repeatedly went in and out of prison.

One of the students asked, “Why is dadah haram?”

Speaking from his lived experience, Azmi shared that when someone possesses and sells illegal substances, the consequences do not affect only one person. It can destroy hundreds of lives and tear families apart. Something that intoxicates, harms and destroys cannot be right—it is against the law and haram in the eyes of Allah SWT.

Alhamdulillah, Azmi was eventually given the opportunity to rebuild his life and become a better version of himself. Today, he does his best to support friends and individuals struggling with addiction or seeking recovery after incarceration.

With the assistance and guidance of FITRAH, together with the support of groups such as AOC, he found his way back to a meaningful and “normal” life, away from drugs and vices.

He also reminded the students that if they ever feel down, depressed or overwhelmed, they should speak up and find someone they trust to confide in. Keeping everything inside can become a heavy burden.

“Today, I allow myself to be HEARD instead of continuing to be HURT. "

Azmi also shared that the asatizah from Fitrah - Family and Inmates ThRoughcare Assistance Haven provide more than religious teachings. They walk alongside inmates and former inmates, guiding and assisting them as they reintegrate into society and return to the right path.

May this sharing remind the students that every choice has consequences—but with sincere repentance, guidance and the right support, change is always possible. 🤲🏽

A beautiful journey completed and a heartfelt homecoming. 🕋🤍

Yesterday, together with members of Goal Aspiration, we waited to welcome our members home from ‘umrah. Their flight was delayed, but Alhamdulillah, the wait ended with gratitude when they arrived safely.

The tiredness and jet lag were visible on their faces, yet their biggest smiles said everything. They were finally home after a wonderful ‘umrah journey, and seeing all of us waiting for them made the moment even more meaningful.

May Allah accept every prayer, every dua and every act of worship performed during their journey. May He grant them ‘umrah mabrurah and allow the peace of the Holy Land to remain forever in their hearts.

Alhamdulillah and welcome home. 🤲🏼

Food from the Heart 🧃🍞

Our end-of-the-month routine—giving back to the community.

Together with our brothers from Goal Aspiration, we packed and distributed groceries to families supported by FITRAH.

Every item was packed and delivered with care and love. It may seem like a simple gesture, but we hope it brings comfort and warmth to their homes.

Alhamdulillah for another opportunity to serve. 🤲🏼🧡

Project 9Yard

Today’s sharing centred on istiqamah—remaining consistent in staying away from drugs and other vices, while continuing to stay strong throughout the recovery journey.

Azmi shared that recovery must continue even without full family support. After enduring more than a decade of homelessness, struggles and addiction, he realised that addiction was the root that could lead to many other problems. He decided to leave that life behind, give recovery his very best and work towards living a “normal” life.

Ashyik spoke about the importance of continuously upgrading ourselves even while in recovery. He also shared how placing his faith in Allah SWT has always been an essential part of his recovery journey.

Tuan Safrin shared that Fitrah - Family and Inmates ThRoughcare Assistance Haven can offer initial assistance to individuals who genuinely wish to rebuild their lives after incarceration. He also introduced Agents of Change (AOC), a recovery support group collaborating with FITRAH to walk alongside those seeking support in their recovery.

Istiqamah does not mean the journey will always be easy. It means choosing, again and again, to stay on the right path—one day and one step at a time. 🤲🏼

28 Aug 2026 | Friday Check-In

Alhamdulillah, yesterday’s Friday Check-In was graced by our guest asatizah, Ustaz Mohamed Effendi Suparde from FITRAH, who shared on the topic:

“Istiqamah: Staying Steadfast in the Journey of Recovery”

Ustaz reminded us of the purpose for which we were created—to worship Allah. Sometimes, people assume that an ustaz must always be strong and consistent in his istiqamah, while someone in recovery is expected to have a lower level of faith.

But the truth is, everyone experiences highs and lows in their iman, regardless of their title, background or past. An ustaz is still human, and a person in recovery is equally capable of growing closer to Allah.

Istiqamah does not mean being perfect or never stumbling. It means continuing to return to Allah, holding on to Him and striving again whenever we fall.

That is what makes every AOC sharing session meaningful—real-life stories, experiences and lessons that you cannot get or read from a textbook. It is a safe space where we learn not only from our guest speakers, but also from one another’s journeys.

Thank you, Tuan Safrin, for the refreshments and for always showing your support and kindness towards us.

May Allah strengthen our hearts, keep us steadfast upon the right path and grant us istiqamah throughout our journey of recovery.

Aamiin Allahumma Aamiin. 🤲🏽

23 Aug 26 | Sunday

Today’s session at Insan Mukmin was made more meaningful with the presence of our brothers from Goal Aspiration. Bro Lezan shared about their journey and how Goal Aspiration was founded—a journey rooted in lived experience, purpose and the desire to give back.

As brothers-in-arms, we stand side by side and hand in hand, giving back to the community—especially in supporting our brothers who are finding their way back and rebuilding their lives.

One brotherhood, one shared purpose: to remind others that change is possible, recovery is a journey, and no one has to walk it alone.

May Allah continue to guide our efforts, strengthen this brotherhood and make us a means of hope for others. Aamiin Allahumma Aamiin. 🤲🏼

21 Aug 2026 | Friday Check-In

It’s never about the numbers; it’s about the dedication. Only six of us tonight, but the sharing was meaningful.

We touched on emotions—something that is never easy to manage, especially when you feel that you have no one to turn to or no one who can relate. When emotions are left unaddressed, they can build up until they eventually burst.

For someone in recovery, this can also become a trigger for relapse. The urge to numb the pain, escape the feelings, or avoid facing them may lead a person back to the streets and their old ways.

That is why having a safe space and the right support matters. Sometimes, we do not need someone to solve our problems—we just need someone willing to listen without judgement.

Small in numbers, but strong in presence. Alhamdulillah for tonight’s honest sharing and reminder that none of us has to struggle alone. 🤝🏼

Alhamdulillah, earlier this morning, we sent off our members for their Umrah journey, together with members from Goal Aspiration They are led by Labbaik Umrah—an agency founded and led by a desistor, for desistors.

During the send-off, Tuan Farik from Fitrah - Family and Inmates ThRoughcare Assistance Haven was presented with a token of appreciation in recognition of his unwavering support and dedication to desistors, individuals in recovery and their families.

Yesterday, our member Uzair and his wife also departed for Umrah.

As Allah says:

“And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah.”
— Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:196

We send all the jemaah off with this du‘a:

أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكُمْ وَأَمَانَتَكُمْ وَخَوَاتِيمَ أَعْمَالِكُمْ

Astawdi‘ullāha dīnakum, wa amānatakum, wa khawātīma a‘mālikum.

“I entrust to Allah your faith, what has been entrusted to you, and the outcome of your deeds.”

May Allah ease their journey and ibadah, protect them throughout their travels, accept their Umrah and every act of worship, and return them home safely with renewed hearts.

May Allah grant them Umrah mabrurah. Ameen ya Rabbal ‘alamin. 🤲🏼
