Read to find out more as Yeo Wan Ling share details on the Progressive Wage Model for the retail sector.
Our retail industry is an important pillar of the Singapore economy and its continued vibrancy is essential in keeping Singapore as an exciting, world class metropolis!
The retail industry will start on the Progressive Wage Model come September 1st 2022, and some 19,000 lower wage workers will see wage adjustments of 8.4 to 8.5% over the next 3 years. I believe that the PWM will uplift the wages of retail workers and provide our workers with a clear career progression pathway, helping our retail firms retain and attract new talent.
I'm tremendously grateful for the support and hardwork of our Tripartite Cluster for the Retail Industry workgroup comprised of my Co-chair Mr Chou CN from Popular Bookstore Singapore and reps from the NTUC Singapore , Singapore National Employers Federation , Singapore Retailers Association , retail employers and government agencies over the past 2 years. Together we engaged and consulted with the stakeholders in our retail industry deeply and broadly. Let's continue to support our fellow Singaporeans with dignified and meaningful livelihoods!
