Yesterday morning, our PSP Nee Soon Team did a Door-to-Door (D2D) walkabout at Yishun Avenue 4. We took the opportunity to distribute a copy of our latest Party newsletter.

Our team received feedback from Yishun residents, particularly on the escalating costs of living.

A young gentleman shared that he had followed the recent debate in Parliament and was shocked to hear the ruling party denying that there is a current “crisis” in the increase costs of living.

He shared his experience that expenses on necessities such as food increased by at least 20% year-on-year and wondered how it will go up next year, besides the imminent GST increase.

According to him, this sentiment was shared by his extended relatives, friends and neighbours too.

Even the COEs are sky rocketing high and a car is out of reach of most Singaporeans.

We will continue to use our parliamentary presence to speak up on pertinent issues which matter to Singaporeans.

Singaporeans deserve better.

On this hot and sunny Saturday morning, our Secretary-General Leong Mun Wai 梁文辉 joined our PSP Nee Soon team for a Door-To-Door (D2D) visit to Yishun residents of Nee Soon Central.

We took this opportunity to hand out our party newsletter, and were happy to hear residents share their daily struggles and concerns with us. They thanked us for making in-roads on the debate involving BTO flat prices.

Thank you for the warm hospitality, and we will continue to represent Singaporean to speak up on their needs in Parliament!

Earlier today, our PSP Nee Soon team was joined by Dr Tan Cheng Bock and Tay Chye Seng 郑财成 for a breakfast walkabout at Chong Pang market. We bumped into Miss Carrie Tan 陈澮敏 who was also doing her walkabout and exchanged greetings with her team.

Many Yishun residents of different ethnic groups were glad to see us, and came up to shake hands and took photos with both Dr Tan and the rest of the team. We listened to views from residents, and chatted about various topics ranging from the upcoming Presidential Elections, recent political developments, costs of living etc.

We are glad that Yishun residents initiated warm rapports now and have freely shared their thoughts or concerns with us, and are getting more interested in latest political developments. Regardless of our political views, we are all Singaporeans and want the best for our country and citizen.

Our PSP NCMP Hazel Poa Koon Koon 潘群勤shares her thoughts on the latest POFMA order against the “Political Sophistry” blog.

A POFMA direction has been issued to “Political Sophistry” with respect to a post that questioned why PM and DPM did not disclose the arrest of Minister Iswaran right from the beginning.

When I read the post, I did not see any allegation that PM or DPM is concealing the truth, but questions asking why there was no full disclosure initially. Do read it and reach your own conclusions.

Since HPL was not stopped from releasing the information that OBS has been arrested as part of its regulatory disclosure, presumably the disclosure does not compromise CPIB’s investigations.

So why did PM and DPM not do the same for Minister Iswaran? Isn’t this a matter of greater public interest?

The article on the Factually website gave the reason that “it is CPIB’s operational judgement when and whether to make public that a person has been arrested in connection with their investigations.”

But when the person concerned is a Minister and the matter is one of great public interest, then, in my opinion, it should NOT be just a matter of operational judgement on the part of CPIB. CPIB should of course independently decide on their own course of action. But the political leaders should also exercise their judgement on what and when to disclose information on one of their own members.

The political judgement exercised here is rather difficult to understand.

Last Saturday (15 Jul), our PSP Nee Soon team visited Yishun residents at the Jade Spring BTO along Yishun Avenue 11.

We were grateful for the warm welcomes that Yishun residents have shown us, freely sharing their concerns and thoughts on day to day living.

One gentleman thanked us for speaking up against the GRC system in Parliament. He felt that there were many ‘backbencher MPs’ who would not otherwise have been elected if they were contesting in SMCs.

Another Yishun resident thanked us for speaking up during the Ministerial statement on the Ridout Road bungalows, and felt that the courage put up by our NCMP Leong Mun Wai 梁文辉 was remarkable.

As politics in Singapore evolves and new changes happen, we will continue to connect with Yishun residents and speak up for them on issues that matter.

STILL GOING STRONG

Met Mr Yeo who is a resident of West Coast GRC. This morning during our PSP newsletter distribution activity, he approached me and we spoke at length.

Mr Yeo is 80 years old. Considering his age,
he looks to be in great shape and spirits. Surprisingly, he shared that he was still working as a Training Supervisor. The cost of living is high and as such he cannot just rely on his savings to survive.

He is worried for fellow senior citizens who have no income and in some cases no or little financial support from their children. In particular, he cited the price of a simple cup of coffee going up and up. With the impending increase of GST next year, life is going to get tougher.

“For the millionaires, it’s no big problem. They stay in big houses and eat expensive food everyday. For us common people, life is not easy” he quipped.

I thanked Mr Yeo for his candid views and support.We will continue to work hard inside and outside parliament for a better Singapore

Last Sunday, our PSP Nee Soon Team did a Walkabout around vicinity of Khatib MRT, getting to know our Yishun residents better and to listen to their concerns.

Our latest newsletter handouts to residents of Nee Soon highlights our proposal to reduce housing costs for young Singaporeans.

Many agreed with our view, explaining that it is not just housing prices that have to be tamed. One well-read gentlemen pointed out an article in today’s Sunday Times, highlighting a country where many living in private properties are cash poor.

He also complained that inflation was high not just in terms of housing, but also especially so for food and transportation, and the government’s apparent slow or inaction approach was both poor and disheartening.

Another shared that the price of noodles has increased from $3.50 to $4.20, and shrugged to think of what would happen when GST is further increased next year.

The cost of living is something that we have spoken up many times in Parliament, and will continue to do so.

After the walkabout, we met Ms Carrie Tan and her PAP Team who were also doing their Walkabout. She invited us to have a chat over coffee, and our team had a short coffeetable conversation with her.

At the end of the day, we are all Singaporeans regardless of Partisan colours, trying to understand the concerns of our fellow Singaporeans and to serve them to the best of our ability.
