[🏛️ 15th Parliament Sitting – 8 September 2026]

Tomorrow, I will raise 5 Parliamentary Questions, with a particular focus on challenges faced by families settling into new towns like Tengah.

🏫 Supporting Families in a Growing Tengah

✅ How children affected by phased school intakes can access student care
✅ Whether the Primary 1 registration framework can better account for when families are actually able to move into their new homes

The other Parliamentary Questions cover issues that Singaporeans are facing:

☀️ Heat Stress and Vulnerable Groups
Whether current guidance addresses behavioural risks during sustained hot periods.

🚒 Fire-Fighting System Reliability
The testing and reliability of dry rising mains and fire-fighting water supply systems.

🛡️ Protecting Children Online
How the effectiveness of online safety measures is assessed.

As Tengah develops, I will continue to raise issues that emerge from the realities of living in a new and growing town, and seek ways for policies to better support our residents and families.

[🏛️ Responses to my Parliamentary Questions: 15th Parliament, Session 10 — 4 & 5 August 2026]

Last month, I asked in Parliament about residents’ experiences with mobile connectivity in new HDB towns like Tengah.

The responses are below:

📶 Mobile connectivity in new HDB towns

Mobile operators are required to meet IMDA’s Quality of Service standards, including at least 99% outdoor coverage and 85% service coverage within buildings. IMDA also conducts regular audits.

For new developments, operators work with HDB and the relevant authorities to facilitate mobile coverage within a few months after a block obtains its Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP).

Where pockets of poor coverage are reported, operators are informed so that enhancements can be made.

This clarifies how the current framework works — the standards, rollout process and what happens when issues are identified.

But it also brings to an important question:

Does the way we currently assess mobile network quality adequately reflect residents’ actual experience when using their phones?

I think this is worth looking at as Tengah grows.

Our residents and RN volunteers have helped identify and map locations with weaker connectivity.

I’ll continue following this work.

[🎓 Caps in the air, big smiles all around]

A special first for Tengah — the first K2 cohort from PCF Sparkletots at Blk 236B has graduated!

We loved seeing the children in their graduation gowns, from the very serious poses to the very cute ones, and of course, the all-important hat throw. 😆

For many of them, this has been their first graduating school, their first friends and their first little community in Tengah.

Now they’re getting ready for their next adventure — primary school.

A big thank you to the teachers and all the families who have been part of their journey.

Congratulations, K2. Keep curious, keep learning and keep having fun. 🎓

Happy Teachers’ Day to all our teachers and teaching support staff!❤️

We celebrated ahead of time with our PCF Sparkletots teachers. I asked a few what they loved about the work. Nobody gave me a complicated answer — just watching a child learn something new, or come in smiling.

[🎻 The Violinist]

I was at the Singapore Gala Premiere of “The Violinist” tonight to lend my support to our local film and animation scene.

PM Lawrence Wong recently shared Ervin Han’s story at the National Day Rally — a film that took more than 10 years to make.

Watching it tonight, I could understand why. Almost everyone around me was teary by the end. I was too. 🥹

By coincidence, I was seated next to Ervin’s parents and family. We chatted a little, and it was nice to hear more about the journey behind the film.

The animation is beautiful, and I especially loved the music. The score by Singaporean composer Ricky Ho, with the beautiful violin performances by Joy Yong, really brought the story to life. It also won Best Original Soundtrack at Annecy.

It’s a Singapore story, and one that made me quite proud.

If you’re looking for a movie to watch with the family, I recommend this one.
