Who are we?
We regard ourselves as a socially critical working group at Karolinska institutet.
While health studies are mainly scientific, science, especially if it is related to production of goods and offering of services, is being done within a political, economic and ethical framework. We want to examine issues related to health policy and, in a critical way, analyze how science translates to health for everyone. We question hierarchical and elitist structures in general and we aim to examine their interference with the right to health. We reject any form of misanthropy.
Through informative events, we want to spread content that we consider important and reach out to as many people as possible, even outside the medical environment, because our topics are of everybody’s concern. We also aim to support several different projects and set up some of them; let it be demonstrations, panel discussions or another form of activism - because it's not just about identifying problems, but also getting active and changing things. We want to recreate structures that we criticize within our university, our workplace and our health-care system.
We are an open group that appreciates new people and new ideas coming along. No matter what your studies are about, everyone is welcome.
We spend time in plenary, trying to learn together and from each other. Collectively we secure space for our ideas and us. Within our group we are sensitive to everybody’s needs and respect each other as individuals.
If you want to get involved, or if you just want to follow a plenary session, just drop by.
We are looking forward to meeting you!
