Courtesy Call by the Kenyan Delegation to the Kenya-Rwanda Trade and Investment Mission

On 22nd October 2026 the Kenyan delegation to the Kenya-Rwanda Trade and Investment Mission paid a courtesy call on H.E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben, High Commissioner at the Chancery. The delegation was led by Hon. Anthony Tom Oluoch, MP Mathare Constituency and Member of the Kenya National Assembly Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives. The Honourable Member of Parliament was accompanied by Ms. Joyce Njogu, Head of Kenya Association of Manufactures (KAM) Consulting, Business Development and Sustainable and several representatives of Kenyan Manufacturers.

The delegation informed the High Commissioner that they arrived in Kigali for the Kenya-Rwanda Trade and Investment Mission, organized by the KAM in partnership with the Private Sector Federation of Rwanda (PSF Rwanda). The Trade and Investment Mission is taking place from 21st to 23rd October 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event brought together representation from key sectors ranging from; KAM, PSF Rwanda, Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda Standard Board (RSB), Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA), Kenya National Assembly, Kenyan and Rwandan Businesses, among others.

They discussed how Kenya can continue to deepen the bilateral relations with Rwanda with an aim of strengthening the collaboration between our two countries in trade and investments, guided by the framework of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC) across various sectors.

The High Commissioner commended the trade mission, a private-sector-led initiative that aims at strengthening Kenya-Rwanda trade and investment relations as well as creating tangible market access and investment opportunities for Kenyan Manufacturers.

Kenya-Rwanda Trade and Investment Mission
On 21st October 2026 H.E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben, High Commissioner had the pleasure of presenting opening remarks during the official opening of the Kenya-Rwanda Trade and Investment Mission, organized by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) in partnership with the Private Sector Federation of Rwanda (PSF Rwanda). The Trade and Investment Mission is taking place from 21st to 23rd October 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The event brought together representation from key sectors ranging from; KAM, PSF Rwanda, Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda Standard Board (RSB), Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA), Kenya National Assembly, Kenyan and Rwandan Businesses, among others.

STRENGTHENING REGIONAL PEACE AND OPERATIONAL READINESS

H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben had the honour of attending the official opening of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Logistics Map Exercise (LOG MAPEX) at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, Rwanda.

Taking place from 19 to 30 October 2026, the two-week exercise brings together military, police and civilian personnel from EASF Member States, alongside regional partners, to enhance logistical planning, operational coordination and interoperability in support of peace support operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster response.

Amb. Janet recognises the important role of regional cooperation, mutual trust and collective preparedness in advancing our shared aspirations for peace, security and stability across Eastern Africa. Strengthening these partnerships remains essential to addressing emerging regional challenges and enhancing our collective capacity to respond effectively to crises.

Kenya remains committed to fostering regional solidarity, deepening cooperation among EASF Member States and supporting initiatives that contribute to a peaceful, secure and resilient Eastern Africa.

Today's Motorsport Formula 1 African Grand Prix event was attended by the Diplomatic Corps and other stake holders including a team of motorsport stakeholders from Kenya.

The event marks a significant milestone for Rwanda and Africa, opening new opportunities for sports development, tourism, investment and international partnerships.

Today, H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben welcomed our colleague and new Defence Attache Col. Jeremiah Gitau Mutunga to the High Commission.

Col. Mutunga has just reported on duty to begin his Tour of Duty as Defence Attache at the Kenya High Commission in Kigali.

Amb. Janet took time to brief him on Rwanda and the High Commission. We are happy to welcome Col. Gitau to the fold.

Today, H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben had the pleasure of hosting the High Commissioner - Designate of the Republic of South Africa to the Republic of Rwanda H.E Amb. Tinyiko George Hlungwane for a courtesy call at the Chancery.

They hailed the cordial bilateral relations that Kenya and South Africa have and committed to strengthening the existing relationship and partnerships.

Amb. Janet welcomed him to the High Commission in Kigali and wished him well as he begins his tour of duty.

H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben was honoured to attend the historic announcement of the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda a significant milestone for Rwanda and the African continent.

This landmark initiative reflects Rwanda’s vision and ambition to position Africa more prominently on the global stage, while creating new opportunities for tourism, investment, economic growth and international cooperation.

Beyond the excitement of motorsport, this development highlights the importance of strategic partnerships and the power of major international events to advance national development and strengthen Africa’s global engagement.

Congratulations to the Government and people of Rwanda on this remarkable achievement, and to all the partners contributing to this important milestone.

On Thursday, 8 October 2026, together with Dr. John Deng Diar Diing, Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA), Dr. Kenneth Chelule Langat, Chief Executive Officer of the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA), and the leadership of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben hosted Rwanda’s Minister of State for ForeignAffairs, Hon. Dr. Usta Kaitesi; Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Damien Murwanashyaka; Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Ernest Rwamucyo; and their delegation at the Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nakuru County.

The delegation visited the facility to appreciate its operations and its strategic role in facilitating the efficient movement of cargo along the Northern Corridor, which serves as a vital trade gateway for Rwanda and other countries in the Great Lakes region as well as to view the property (Land) allocated to them at the facility.

The engagement reaffirmed the importance of strong regional partnerships in enhancing trade facilitation, improving logistics efficiency and strengthening economic connectivity between Kenya and Rwanda.

As our two countries continue to deepen bilateral cooperation, strategic investments in transport and logistics infrastructure remain essential to advancing regional integration, unlocking new trade and investment opportunities, and delivering shared prosperity for our people.

6th October, 2026, H. E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben joined the conclusion of the 10th Session of the Kenya–Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC), led by H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya, and Dr. Usta Kaitesi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda.

The Session culminated in the signing of 11 bilateral instruments covering justice and security, political consultations, immigration, housing and urban development, diaspora affairs, water and irrigation, local governance, culture and heritage, and conservation.

These agreements reaffirm our shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, strengthening people-to-people ties and advancing mutual prosperity between Kenya and Rwanda.
