Com o ano letivo a começar, voltei a pensar nos meus alunos de 12 anos. 📚
Que livros lhes recomendaria se o objetivo fosse simples: terem vontade de ler?
Comecei a procurar
títulos adequados à idade, mas depressa me deparei com outra questão. Uma boa história chega, se a capa não lhes despertar sequer vontade de pegar no livro?
E não é apenas uma impressão. Segundo o Annual Literacy Survey 2025, do National Literacy Trust, 30,9% dos jovens inquiridos disseram que uma capa ou um título interessante os poderia incentivar a ler mais. 37,1% apontaram livros relacionados com os seus interesses e hobbies e 26,6% valorizaram poder escolher o que leem.

👉🏻Por isso, mudei a pergunta.
Em vez de procurar simplesmente “livros adequados aos 12 anos”, pensei naquilo de que eles já gostam. Videojogos. Mistérios. Terror. Cinema. Humor. Fantasia. Desafios.

Foi daí que nasceu esta publicação.
Selecionei livros adequados à idade, com histórias que me parecem capazes de despertar curiosidade e com capas que também convidam a descobrir o que está lá dentro.
Porque talvez o caminho para criar mais leitores não comece por lhes dizer o que devem ler. Talvez comece por encontrar o livro que lhes faça pensar: “Este quero ler.”

Reading 115 of 2026 🎧
The Scrooge Conspiracy

This had everything to be one of the strongest books in the series: Pearl Harbor, America entering the war, disappearances, deaths and espionage.

Unfortunately, the Christmas play took up too much space and the investigation lost momentum. Such a missed opportunity because the premise was excellent.

Book 7 finished. Book 8 already playing. 🎧
Only one more to go before 17 September! 😅

Have you ever had high expectations for a book that simply didn’t deliver?

🎧 Reading 114 of 2026
Six books into The Homefront Sleuths and I’m still enjoying my time in Crofter’s Green. ❤️

The Harvest Festival Murders brings new characters into the story, while espionage once again takes centre stage. N**i spies, coded messages and the threat of an attack bring more danger to what started as a cosy village mystery. 🔎🕵️

I also loved seeing Katherine recovering and becoming a proper member of the investigating gang. And Evie and Nigel? Those feelings are getting harder to ignore… ❤️ This time, Nigel is the one whose life is in danger.

Another solid 4-star instalment. The mystery, espionage and character development are keeping me invested in this series.

And there’s no break between books. 😂 I’m already listening to book 7, with two more to finish by 17 September. Will I make it? 🎧⏳

📚 Reading 113 of 2026
Five books into The Homefront Sleuths series, and I think this one marks a real step forward.

The Murders at Clarion Castle takes us beyond the relative safety of Crofter’s Green. There’s more action, much more espionage and, for the first time, I genuinely felt that Evie’s life was in danger. Even Winston Churchill becomes part of the story.

I also loved seeing some progress in the question left hanging from the previous book: Evie and Nigel. Friendship… or something more? ❤️

And then there’s THAT revelation. I’m saying absolutely nothing about it because it deserves to be experienced without spoilers, but it has the potential to change Evie’s future completely.

I enjoyed this more than the previous books and I’m loving the way the series is growing. It didn’t quite give me the final WOW feeling I need for five stars, so this one gets a strong 4 ⭐️.

🎧 And yes, I’ve already started book 6, The Harvest Festival Murders.

5 down. 4 to go.
The challenge to finish the first nine audiobooks by the end of 17 September continues. 😅

🎧 A RACE AGAINST TIME ⏳

My weekend listening plans have turned into a challenge I definitely didn’t plan. 😅

I’m completely hooked on The Homefront Sleuths series by Anna Elliott & Charles Veley. Historical cosy mysteries, an English village during the Second World War, murder, espionage and a group of amateur sleuths I’ve become rather attached to.

I’ve already finished Books 1–4 and I’m currently listening to Book 5, The Murders at Claridon Castle.

The problem?

The first nine audiobooks are only included in my Audible subscription until 17 September. I haven’t bought them or used credits, so the clock is ticking. ⏳

This weekend’s mission:

🎧 Finish Book 5, around 6 hours left
🎧 Move straight on to Book 6, The Harvest Festival Murders, 9h 08m
🎧 Then Book 7, The Scrooge Conspiracy, 10h 23m
🎧 And Books 8 and 9 are still waiting…

Books 10 and 11 are staying included, so if I reach those, I can finally slow down. 😂

🎧 Reading 112 of 2026

👉🏻Three books into The Homefront Sleuths, and I’m still enjoying this series.

The Spitfire Murders gave me something I’d been waiting for: a little more about Evie’s life before Crofter’s Green. We get a few more pieces of her story, although there are still plenty of questions about who she really is and where some of those rather unusual skills came from. 👀

This time, the murder mystery felt less prominent than in the previous books. The story focuses more on the recurring characters and the intrigue surrounding British and German spies, wartime intelligence and sabotage.

And I liked that shift. By book three, I’m invested in these characters, and Evie’s mysterious past has become one of the main reasons I want to continue the series.

So yes, I’m already moving on to book four. 🎧

Three books in and Evie Harris is still the biggest mystery of them all…

👻 MURDER, SECRETS AND A PAST THAT RAISES MORE QUESTIONS…

Reading 112 of 2026 📚

The Spectre of Hawthorne Manor is the second book in The Homefront Sleuths series, and I’m still really enjoying these mysteries set in 1940s England.

There’s another crime to solve, secrets surrounding Hawthorne Manor and plenty of village intrigue. But this time, one mystery interested me even more than the case itself: Evie Harris. 👀

Who exactly is she?
She owns a village tearoom, but her investigative instincts, her ability to defend herself and her skill with a gun suggest there’s much more to her past than we know.
And by the end? More questions. 🔎

I need to know what Evie is hiding and whether we’ll finally get some answers about her past.
So yes… I’ve already started book three, The Spitfire Murders. 🎧📖

📚🇬🇧 Amanhã, 10 de setembro, o mercado editorial britânico vive um dos dias mais importantes do ano: o Super Thursday.

😱 Num único dia estão previstos 379 lançamentos em primeiro formato. E é apenas uma pequena parte de um outono editorial com mais de 13 mil lançamentos em capa dura previstos entre agosto e dezembro. 🤯📖

Entre tantos livros, há nomes bem conhecidos e títulos que já estavam no meu radar. Richard Osman, Kate Atkinson, Emma Cline, Sebastian Barry e muitos outros fazem parte desta avalanche de novidades.

E, claro, crime e mistério continuam a chamar por mim. 🔎👀

O Super Thursday também ajuda a perceber algumas tendências do mercado britânico para os próximos meses, com o romance e a romantasy em crescimento, o thriller psicológico novamente em destaque e muitos dos grandes lançamentos concentrados antes do Natal.

🍂 A minha TBR de outono não precisava desta informação. Eu, aparentemente, precisava. 😂
