✔️ Forman amistades
✔️ Desarrollan independencia

💙✨ Down syndrome occurs when a child is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21. This can affect how the brain and body develop — but every child’s journey is unique.

Here’s what every parent should know 👇

👶 It can be identified early
Some children are diagnosed before birth or shortly after. Early identification helps families access the right support from the very beginning.

🧠 Development may happen at a different pace
Children with Down syndrome may take longer to reach milestones like sitting, walking, and talking — but they do learn, grow, and thrive with support.

đź’¬ Communication skills can be strengthened
Speech and language may develop later, but early therapies (like speech, occupational, and physical therapy) make a powerful difference.

❤️ Health considerations matter
Some children may have associated conditions such as:
• Heart differences
• Hearing or vision challenges
• Low muscle tone (hypotonia)

Regular medical follow-ups help children stay healthy and strong.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family support changes everything
With early intervention services, families learn strategies to support development during everyday routines — playtime, mealtime, and daily interactions.

✨ Most important of all:
Children with Down syndrome:
✔️ Go to school
✔️ Build friendships
✔️ Develop independence
✔️ Live meaningful, joyful lives

đź’™ Early support = stronger outcomes
The earlier we start, the more we can support communication, learning, and confidence.

Cerebral palsy affects how a child moves, balances, and controls their muscles.

Some early signs may include:

- Delays in rolling, sitting, or crawling
- Stiff or very floppy muscles
- Difficulty with coordination or balance
- Using one side of the body more than the other

🤍Early therapy and developmental services can make a powerful difference.

Physical, occupational, and speech therapies can help children strengthen movement, communication, and independence.

❤️Small progress is still big progress.

• Autismo
• Síndrome de Down
• Parálisis Cerebral
• Discapacidad Intelectual

A child’s brain forms more than 1 million neural connections per second in the first few years of life.
That means early experiences matter — and so does early support.

Developmental disabilities that can sometimes be identified before age 3 include:

- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Down syndrome
- Cerebral palsy
- Intellectual disability
- Global developmental delay

Early identification does NOT mean something is “wrong.”
It means we can:

✨ Strengthen communication

✨ Support motor skills

✨ Build social-emotional connection

✨ Empower parents with tools

The earlier we start, the stronger the foundation.

Trust your instincts. Parents are often the first to notice.

From 0–3 years old, babies learn through something powerful called SERVE AND RETURN.

👶 Baby smiles… you smile back.

👶 Baby babbles… you answer back.

👶 Baby looks at you… you respond.

These simple moments teach your child:

✨ How conversations work

✨ How to take turns

✨ That their voice matters

✨ That relationships are safe

Every time you respond, their brain is building the foundation for speech, language, and social skills.

Your face.

Your voice.

Your response.

That’s where communication begins. 💛

If you have questions about your child’s development, early support can make a big difference.

👶When you respond to your child’s coos, babbles, and sounds, you are helping build their social and communication skills. Your response teaches them that their voice matters and encourages them to keep interacting.

Simple ways to respond:
• Imitate their sounds
• Talk back and smile
• Make eye contact
• Take turns “talking”

These loving interactions help build the foundation for language, confidence, and strong relationships.

💛 Your voice is your child’s favorite sound

This Valentine’s Week, say “I LOVE YOU” in a whole new way! 🤟

At EDIS – Fort Buchanan, we celebrate love through early communication. Teaching babies and toddlers how to sign “I LOVE YOU” helps them express big feelings even before words develop.

Benefits of Sign Language at early age:
đź’—Encourages early communication
đź’—Reduces frustration
💗Strengthens parent–child bonding
đź’—Supports language, social, and emotional development

Because when little hands can share love, early support makes a lifelong difference.

💗 February is all about love — and for babies and toddlers, love is how they learn best.

This month, we’re focusing on social-emotional development, helping little ones feel safe, understood, and supported as they grow, connect, and learn to regulate big feelings in their first years of life.

Did you know that your baby’s brain grows through loving interactions?

Every smile, cuddle, and gentle response helps your child feel safe — and safety is the foundation for learning.

When parents and caregivers respond with warmth and consistency, children begin to:
❤️Trust the world
❤️Feel secure
❤️Build strong emotional foundations

đź’— At EDIS, we support families in building loving connections that help children grow socially and emotionally.
