Seminar on Rabies Prevention and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Held at RTEH Muzaffargarh

A seminar titled “A Preventable Tragedy in Pakistan: Management & Post Exposure Prophylaxis of Rabies” was held at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Hospital (RTEH), Muzaffargarh.
The session was led by M. Aftab Gohar, Rabies Expert and Technical Lead, Rabies Prevention & Management Services, IHHN. Doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from RTEH, as well as healthcare professionals from nearby DHQs and RHCs, participated in the activity.
The session focused on the management of rabies, post-exposure prophylaxis, and the correct administration of rabies vaccine and Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG). Participants were also briefed on vaccine handling, storage, and the essential requirements for safe and effective administration.
Medical Director Dr. Sheraz Hassan and Service Line Chair, Internal Medicine, Dr. Asif Yaseen, also participated in the event. They have highlighted the importance of such awareness sessions for medical professionals, stating that the session was highly important and beneficial. He emphasized that the participants should return to their respective workplaces and further disseminate the knowledge and awareness gained from the session.
The seminar was arranged and managed by Dr. Sabahat Fatima (FCPS Emergency Medicine), Rabies Taskforce Focal Person, head of Emergency Department at RTEH, who coordinated the activity and facilitated the participation of healthcare professionals from RTEH and nearby healthcare facilities.
The activity was accredited by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, and was arranged to support capacity building and improve rabies prevention and management practices among healthcare professionals in Pakistan.
