The journey of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF) Merit-Cum-In-Affordability Scholarship Programme continues to expand through strategic partnerships, despite limited funding and growing demand for higher education support.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan, Vice Chancellor, CECOS University, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF), signifying a significant step towards strengthening collaboration and facilitating deserving students in pursuing higher education.

Peshawar, as a major educational and academic centre of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hosts a diverse range of higher education institutions that provide opportunities to students from across the province. However, financial constraints continue to limit access to higher education for many deserving and talented students. Partnerships between KPEF and higher education institutions therefore play an important role in creating greater opportunities for students and supporting them in pursuing their academic aspirations.

Mr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam, Managing Director, KPEF, appreciated the collaboration with CECOS University, terming it a valuable addition to KPEF’s efforts to expand scholarship opportunities for deserving students. He stated that such partnerships would help strengthen access to higher education and enable talented students to continue their studies without being constrained by financial difficulties.

The journey of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF) Merit-Cum-In-Affordability Scholarship Programme continues to expand through strategic partnerships, despite limited funding and growing demand for higher education support.

KPEF has signed an MoU with the University of Science & Technology Bannu (USTB), with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan, Vice Chancellor, formalizing collaboration to expand educational opportunities for deserving and high-achieving students.

Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains among the province’s most vulnerable and least-developed regions, where access to quality higher education can be a decisive factor in creating opportunity and improving livelihoods. Expanding access is therefore not merely an educational intervention—it is an investment in the potential of the region’s youth.

KPEF has consistently pursued initiatives aimed at taking education closer to underserved communities. One notable example is the establishment of 17 girls’ degree colleges in remote areas where such institutions were previously unavailable, creating opportunities for thousands of young women.

The partnership with USTB represents another step in this continuing journey: broadening access, strengthening institutional collaboration, and ensuring that financial constraints do not become an insurmountable barrier to higher education for deserving students.

PESHAWAR: September 10, 2026:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation successfully concluded its 159th Training Activity, first ever of its nature and kind, here in Peshawar. The aim of two-day training workshop titled as “Transforming Leadership in Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” was to provide a platform to the administrative leadership of both public and private sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Registrars, Deans, and departmental Chairpersons have attended the workshop.

Among the trainers, Dr. Noor Amna Malik (MD NAHE, HEC Islamabad), Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari (VC FU University, Islamabad), Prof. Dr. Saleem ur Rehman (VC Sarhad University) , Prof. Dr. Jamil Ahmad (VC AWKU, Mardan), Prof. Dr. Najeeb ul Haq (Principal PMC), and Ms. Amina Durrani (Director KPCSW) were included, who through insightful lectures and interactive activities have inculcated the training modules.

The participants were provided with comprehensive insights into digitization of university administration, ERP systems, digital file management, Artificial Intelligence in university administration, E-Office, Student Information Systems, data-driven decision-making, cybersecurity, digital governance and the concept of paperless universities.

A dedicated session on gender-sensitive issues in universities was also conducted, focusing on gender sensitivity in higher education, prevention of harassment and inappropriate behaviour, gender equality, safe and inclusive campus environments, relevant legal and policy frameworks, complaint-handling procedures, confidentiality and due process, as well as the role of university leadership in promoting respectful and inclusive institutional cultures.

The second and concluding day of the training workshop was held. The programme focused on contemporary challenges and emerging requirements in university administration, leadership and institutional governance.

During the concluding session, in his welcome note, Mr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam MD KPEF has highlighted the challenging issues faced by HEIs at present. He lauded the efforts of present provincial Govt. and specially the keen interest of Mr. Meena Khan Afridi KP Minister for HE in the resolutions of issues through quick decision-making and reform initiatives. MD KPEF told that the Foundation, under the vision and dynamic leadership of Minister HE and Secretary HE, was also working with initiatives for the uplift of HE in the province.

The Chief Guest, Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Meena Khan Afridi, along with Mr. Fazal Hussain, Special Secretary, Higher Education Department and senior officers have graced the concluding certificate-awarding ceremony. BS Students of Higher Education Institutions who successfully completed 02 months internship at Foundation were also present during the ceremony.

In his concluding remarks, the Honourable Chief Guest appreciated the initiative of KPEF for organizing the training workshop and emphasized the importance of effective, visionary, and responsive leadership in strengthening the higher education sector of the province. He appreciated Mr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam, Managing Director and his team for the arrangement of the workshop and underscored the need for translating the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop into practical institutional improvements. He declared that soon the provincial Govt. will announce 20,000 paid internships to the fresh BS degree holders.
The Special Secretary, Higher Education Department, also appreciated the successful conduct of the training workshop and highlighted the significance of continuous capacity building and professional development of university leadership.

The participating Registrars, Deans and Chairpersons appreciated the efforts of KPEF and described the training workshop as a valuable and timely capacity-building initiative. They particularly appreciated the interactive and practical nature of the sessions and expressed their commitment to utilizing the knowledge, skills and problem-solving approaches acquired during the workshop in their respective institutions. Certificates were awarded to all the participants of the workshop and the internee students.

KPEF TWO-DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME ON TRANSFORMING LEADERSHIP IN UNIVERSITIES OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA COMMENCES

PESHAWAR
A two-day training programme on **“Transforming Leadership in Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”**, organized by the **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF)**, commenced in Peshawar on Tuesday, September 08, 2026.

The inaugural session was attended by a large number of distinguished leaders and stakeholders from the higher education sector. Mr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam, Managing Director KPEF, welcomed the participants, comprising Registrars, Deans, and Chairpersons of Departments from public and private sector universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abdul Akram, Additional Secretary, Higher Education Department, urged participants to engage meaningfully with the themes and modules of the training programme. He emphasized that **transforming leadership begins with transforming oneself, adding that personal accountability is fundamental to meaningful institutional transformation. He further stated that the recommendations emerging from the workshop would be looked into by the Higher Education Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, for possible implementation.

The first day featured thought-provoking and insightful sessions on **University Governance in 2026, emerging administrative challenges in KP universities, and leadership skills for university administrators**. Distinguished keynote speakers, including **Dr. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director, NAHE-HEC Islamabad; Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari, Vice Chancellor, Federal Urdu University Islamabad; and Dr. Salim ur Rehman, Vice Chancellor, Sarhad University Peshawar**, engaged participants through expert presentations and interactive learning activities.

The sessions focused on **good governance, institutional autonomy and accountability, strategic decision-making, crisis leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, team building, and leading change**.

The day concluded with an engaging **Leadership Simulation Activity**, providing participants with an opportunity to translate leadership concepts into practical experience.

The first day marked a significant step towards strengthening leadership capacity, promoting institutional excellence, fostering collaborative learning, and shaping the future of higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
