Harvesting of virus-free seed potato was successfully carried out at Luqman Khel, Upper Kurram. Healthy and uniform tubers were harvested, graded and selected for further multiplication. The activity is aimed at promoting the availability of quality seed potato and improving potato productivity in the high-altitude areas of District Kurram.

پاراچنار (14 اگست 2026): ایگری کلچر ریسرچ سب اسٹیشن پاراچنار، ضلع کرم میں پرنسپل ریسرچ آفیسر (PRO) اقرار حسین کی سربراہی میں جشنِ آزادی کی ایک پروقار اور پرجوش تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔
تقریب میں ایگری کلچر ریسرچ کے عملے کے ساتھ ساتھ یونٹ انجینئر (ایگری کلچر انجینئرنگ) اور کراپ رپورٹنگ سروسز (CRS) کے کراپ رپورٹرز نے بھی خصوصی طور پر شرکت کی۔
تقریب کے نمایاں نکات:
پرچم کشائی و سلامی: تمام افسران اور اہلکاروں نے باہم مل کر قومی پرچم کو سلامی پیش کی اور وطنِ عزیز سے اپنی غیر متزلزل محبت کا اظہار کیا۔

Activity: Coordination Meeting of Agriculture Line Departments, District Kurram

On August 13, 2026, a coordination meeting of the Agriculture Line Departments of District Kurram was held at the office of Soil and Water Conservation department Kurram under the chairmanship of Mr. Iqrar Hussain, Principal Research Officer Agriculture Research district Kurram. The session brought together key departmental representatives, including Mr. Gul Nabi (Incharge, FSC, Agriculture Extension), Mr. Mazhar Abbas (Unit Engineer, Agriculture Engineering), Mr. Qaisar Abbas (Sub-Engineer, Soil and Water Conservation), Mr. Mujahid Hussain and Mr. Qaiser Abbas (Crop Reporting Services), and Mr. Laiq Hussain (On-Farm Water Management).

During the meeting, participants thoroughly reviewed ongoing routine operations and developmental projects across the district.

The session concluded with a joint pledge to reinforce inter-departmental synergy, ensuring coordination and the timely ex*****on of all agricultural initiatives throughout District Kurram.

Plantation Drive at Agriculture Research Sub-Station, Parachinar
Dated: August 13, 2026

An official Tree Plantation Drive was successfully conducted at the Agriculture Research Sub-Station in Parachinar, District Kurram. The initiative focused on promoting high-value plants through the plantation of pecan nut saplings in the facility’s premises.

The event was formally inaugurated by Mr. Iqrar Hussain, Incharge of the Agriculture Research Substation, Parachinar, who planted the inaugural sapling. The staff actively participated in the drive, demonstrating collective support for expanding green cover and agricultural research initiatives in the valley.

The drive also highlighted strong inter-departmental collaboration, featuring key guest participants including Engineer Mazhar Abbas representing the Agriculture Engineering Department, alongside Mr. Mujahid Hussain and Mr. Qaiser Abbas from Crop Reporting Services (CRS) Kurram.

Selecting pecan nut trees for this drive carries strategic value, as Parachinar’s temperate climate and soil conditions are ideally suited for nut production. The event concluded with a shared pledge among all departments to promote high-value orchard crops to boost the economic well-being of local farmers across District Kurram.

ایڈیشنل ڈپٹی کمشنر (آر اینڈ ایچ آر )کرم ڈاکٹر محمد علی نے آج ایگریکلچر ریسرچ سوائل ٹیسٹنگ سینٹر پاراچنار کا تفصیلی دورہ کیا۔
دورے کے دوران پرنسپل ریسرچ آفیسر اقرار حسین نے ایڈیشنل ڈپٹی کمشنر کو ادارے کی مجموعی کارکردگی، جاری تحقیقی سرگرمیوں، مٹی کے تجزیے، زرعی تحقیق، فصلوں کی بہتری اور کاشتکاروں کو فراہم کی جانے والی تکنیکی خدمات کے حوالے سے تفصیلی بریفنگ دی۔ اس موقع پر زرعی شعبے کی ترقی، جدید تحقیق کے فروغ اور کسانوں کو درپیش مسائل کے حل سے متعلق مختلف امور پر بھی تفصیلی تبادلۂ خیال کیا گیا۔
ڈاکٹر محمد علی نے زرعی تحقیق کے معیار کو مزید بہتر بنانے، مٹی کی جانچ کی سہولیات کو مؤثر انداز میں بروئے کار لانے اور کسانوں کو جدید زرعی معلومات و رہنمائی کی بروقت فراہمی یقینی بنانے کی ہدایت کی۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر بھی زور دیا کہ زرعی پیداوار میں اضافے اور جدید کاشتکاری کے فروغ کے لیے تحقیقی اداروں کا کردار نہایت اہم ہے، لہٰذا متعلقہ عملہ اپنی ذمہ داریاں دیانتداری، پیشہ ورانہ مہارت اور عوامی خدمت کے جذبے کے ساتھ انجام دے۔

Field Visit Report Potato Seed Multiplication Plot (Luqmankhi

On July 24, 2026, the Principal Research Officer Mr. Iqrar Hussain along with his team conducted a field inspection of the Potato Seed Multiplication Plot at Luqmankhil. The crop was found to be in good condition with healthy vigor, and is scheduled for harvest within the next 10 days. Due to recent frequent and heavy rainfall, rapid w**d growth was observed across the plot; however, timely corrective action was taken, and the w**ds will be uprooted to maintain field hygiene.

1. Field Observations
Corm Health: Daughter (baby) corms were in good, healthy condition. A few scattered corms showed signs of rot.
Ridge & Soil Conditions: Digging revealed that soil erosion from ridges left several corms exposed to direct weather. Soil moisture varied significantly across plots, from fully dry to waterlogged patches.
Pest Activity: Rodent burrows and damage were was found to a few specific ridges.
2. Advisory to Farmers
Earthing Up: Cover exposed corms with fresh soil immediately to prevent heat damage and desiccation.
Drainage Management: Clear field channels to prevent stagnant water after heavy rains.
Fungicide Application: Apply approved fungicides to protect healthy corms from soil-borne rot pathogens.
W**d Control: Remove w**ds regularly to reduce competition for nutrients and moisture.
Targeted Rodent Control: Set traps and apply bait specifically around affected ridges to stop further corm damage.

On July 15, 2026, the Principal Research Officer, Agriculture Research Merged District Kurram conducted an official inspection of the greenhouse facility dedicated to the seed multiplication of key potato varieties, including Bartina, Asterix, Karuda, and SM Kaghan. This initiative aims to promote the adoption of healthy, disease-free seed potatoes for the agro climatic conditions of Kurram to contribute in reducing reliance on low-quality seed.
During the evaluation, the standing crop was observed to be in excellent condition. The cultivation of greenhouse-produced minitubers is demonstrating excellent crop emergence, uniform growth, and vigorous development, which inherently enhances the plants' natural resistance to pests and diseases.
