OIC Urged to Act on ‘Humanitarian Crisis’ in Azad Kashmir
June 24, 2026 — Azmat A Khan, Secretary General of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), has written to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) calling for urgent intervention in Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In the letter, issued on behalf of the Kashmiri Diaspora in the UK and Europe, Khan warned of a serious crisis triggered by protests led by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC). The group has been banned as a “terrorist organisation” by local authorities.
According to the letter:
• At least 24 people have been killed in Rawalkot and Kotli districts since June 5.
• Nearly 500 people arrested, many charged under anti-terrorism laws.
• A communications blackout and curfews have caused shortages of food and medicine.
Khan urged the OIC’s Contact Group on Kashmir to press Pakistan for immediate de-escalation, lifting of the blackout, an independent probe into the deaths, and withdrawal of charges — in line with an October 2025 agreement.
He requested an urgent meeting with OIC officials to prevent further escalation.
The appeal comes amid reports from Amnesty International and Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission condemning the crackdown on peaceful protests.
