Enforcement Operation Update — 22-08-2026

Under the leadership and direct supervision of Mr. Zohaib Hassan, Divisional Forest Officer, Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, a joint enforcement operation was conducted by Patrol Squad Upper Hazara and Siran Forest Division, resulting in the interception and seizure of a Toyota High Roof on the Hazara Expressway.

The vehicle was found carrying illegal Blue Pine (Kail) timber. The vehicle and timber were taken into official custody and shifted to Resin Shed, Shinkiari, for physical measurement, verification and further investigation.

Necessary legal proceedings are being initiated under the applicable provisions of the forest law.

Enforcement Operation Update — 20 August 2026

On 20 August 2026 at approximately 0515 hours, Mr. Zohaib Hassan , Divisional Forest Officer, Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, personally led an enforcement operation on the Hazara Expressway, resulting in the interception and apprehension of a Toyota vehicle bearing registration No. 1027.

Upon thorough inspection, the vehicle was found carrying illicit Kail (Pinus wallichiana) timber, which was being transported in violation of the applicable Forest laws.

The vehicle along with the illicit timber was immediately seized and taken into departmental custody for initiation of further legal proceedings in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Forest laws.

The successful operation reflects the Department’s continued commitment to maintaining strict vigilance, curbing illegal timber transportation, and protecting the province’s forest resources through coordinated and sustained enforcement measures.

19-08-2026: Field Visit Update

The Divisional Forest Officer, Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, Mr. Zohaib Hassan along with the field staff of Patrol Squad Upper Hazara, Sriran Forest Division and Hazara Tribal Forest Division conducted an extensive field visit to various routes and vulnerable link roads in Chatter Plain, Hillan and Battal areas.
During the visit, the DFO inspected the forest check posts at Neeli Shang, Tandoi Gali and Khatora and reviewed the operational preparedness and vigilance arrangements of the field formations.

The DFO emphasized the need for close coordination, information sharing and joint operational efforts among the concerned forest divisions, particularly Hazara Tribal, Siran and Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, to effectively curb forest offences and prevent illegal transportation of forest produce from the region.

The field visit was aimed at strengthening inter-divisional coordination, enhancing surveillance of vulnerable routes and ensuring a prompt and coordinated response against timber smuggling and other illegal forest activities. He directed the field staff to maintain heightened vigilance and discharge their duties with diligence, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility for the protection of the province’s forest resources.

On this momentous occasion of 14 August let us renew our pledge to protect the green wealth of Pakistan and secure a better future for generations to come. Let us safeguard our forests, combat illegal activities and ensure their sustainable use for the well being of the present as well as the future generations.

I urge all citizens, institutions and communities across the province to actively participate in the plantation drive on 14, August organised by the Climate Change, Forestry, Environment and Wildlife Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to plant 1.4 million plants.

Within a span of only two months, this marks the second incident in which forest offenders have resorted to opening fire at Mr. Zohaib Hassan, Divisional Forest Officer, Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, Mansehra, with apparent intent to cause fatal harm. Despite these serious threats and repeated attempts to intimidate him, the officer has remained steadfast, resolute, and unwavering in the discharge of his official duties.

His firm resolve and continued commitment to combating illegal timber smuggling reflect exemplary professionalism, courage, and devotion to duty. Standing resolutely against the timber mafia, he continues to lead from the front in safeguarding the country’s precious forest resources and protecting its “green gold” from unlawful exploitation.

Inspection of Sawing Units and Timber Sale Depots in Bherkund, Mansehra

The DFO Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Mr. Zohaib Hassan, conducted a detailed inspection of timber sawing units and sale depots in the Bherkund, Mansehra accompanied by field staff of the Patrol Squad Upper Hazara, and Siran Forest Division.

During the inspection, the DFO thoroughly scrutinized the requisite records pertaining to the timber stock, and physically verified the timber available at the concerned sale depots and sawing units.

Further during the inspection 92 CFT of illegally possessed Chir Pine timber was detected and seized. The seized timber was then handed over to the local forest staff for safe custody and further necessary legal proceedings in accordance with the applicable law.

The inspection forms part of the department's ongoing enforcement drive aimed at ensuring strict regulatory compliance, curbing illegal possession and trade of forest produce, and safeguarding the forest resources of the region.

Field visit update, 06-08-2026, 2:45 am

The worthy Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Patrol Squad Upper Hazara Forest Circle, Mansehra, Mr. Zohaib Hassan, conducted a surprise inspection of the field formations at 02:45 AM to evaluate the operational preparedness and vigilance of the deployed staff.

During the visit, he inspected vulnerable locations, suspected smuggling routes, and link roads connected to the Hazara Expressway. He directed the field staff to intensify surveillance and round-the-clock patrolling, and closely monitor all vulnerable routes and link roads to effectively curb the illegal transportation and smuggling of timber and other forest produce from the region.
