Inauguration of Official Webpage of Punjab Archives Digitization Project

The Official Webpage of Punjab Archives Digitization Project will be inaugurated on 12 July 2019 at 02:30 pm at Tomb of Anarkali , Civil Secretariat , Lahore.
The digitization of historical record would not only preserve our heritage but also make it easily accessible for academics, scholars, researchers, artists, students and policy makers. This will significantly improve our understanding of the society around us.
The Punjab Archives collection comprises of over seven million documents and 70,000 rare books. The part of the collection which is in greatest public demand is being digitized in the collaborative project of PITB and Archives & Libraries Wing, S&GAD. The five hundred thousand documents, which are to be preserved, catalogued and digitized, selected from the Mughal , Sikh and Colonial collections kept in Punjab Archives from1629 to1868.

100 Years of Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre & Martial Law in Punjab : Official Records speak themselves

Rare documents from the treasure trove of Punjab Government Archives showcasing first time the documents related to Jallianwalla Bagh and Martial Law in Punjab.
These documents throw a new light on the horrors committed by the British government and Military in Punjab after declaration of Martial Law in Amritsar, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Lyallpur districts in 1919. The facts were not only hidden from the people of India and England, but the Hunter Commission was also kept ignored intentionally.

Opening : 20th April , 2019 at 05 pm
Venue: City Heritage Museum, (Old Tollinton Market) Mall Road Lahore.

The Exhibition will remain open till 26th April 2019

Exhibition on
Rai Ahmad Khan Kharal : a lost hero

Punjab Government Archives Lahore, Pakistan will open the exhibition of rare historical documents on Rai Ahmad Khan Kharal (1785-1857) at Fazl-e-Hussain Reading Room, Government College University, Lahore on 24th September, 2018 at 11:00 am.
The exhibition's next venue will be Tomb of Anarkali, Civil Secretariat, Lahore from September 25--28, 2018.

INDEPENDENT DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Punjab Government Archives organized an Exhibition on Independence Day from August 13 - 16 , 2018.
The exhibition focus on mass migration, Punjab Boundary Commission Record, various Newspapers of 1947 and rare documents of All India Muslim League .
The Chief Secretary Punjab will inaugurate the exhibition on 13 August, 2018 at 10:30 am.
A visit to the historical buildings of Civil Secretariat and tomb of Anarkali has been arranged in the evening of 14 August from 07:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Thereafter, the exhibition will be open until 16 August during office hours.
Entry : Free for students, researchers teachers and general public.

The Centre for Governance and Policy, Information Technology University, in collaboration with Archives and Libraries Wing S&GAD and Punjab Information Technology Board is organizing an exclusive exhibition:

‘Fear and Vengeance in 1857:
Selections from the Archives of the Great Rebellion’.

The opening of the exhibition is on the 31st of May, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., at Anarkali’s Tomb, Civil Secretariat, Lower Mall, Lahore. The exhibition will continue till June 8, 2018 and will be open for public display from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on week days.

This exhibition explores elements of fear and vengeance between the Sepoys and the British Army during the Great Rebellion of 1857. It features enlargements of engravings which were published between 1858 and 1859, paired with letters from the time to build a narrative which depicts the atmosphere of war, the fears of those involved, and the resulting vengeful feelings. The documents include directives for censorship, punishment, and prayer in times testing for the British. The communique between the British officers is further revealing of this fear, telling us that despite their might and power, the rebellion was no small matter.
