Department of Anesthesia; Past to Present – SHL/SIMS

A formal get-together was organized by the Department of Anesthesia under the esteemed guidance of current HOD; Prof. Liaqat Ali at Gymkhana Lahore on April 11, 2026.

The event brought together the distinguished former leadership of the department, inviting them back to witness the flourishing institution they had once nurtured with dedication and vision. The honored guests included Prof. Taifur ul Islam Gillani, Prof. Khalid Bashir, Prof. Muhammad Yonus, Prof. Khawar Ali, Prof. Muhammad Riaz, Prof. Ch. Tahir Mahmood , and Dr. Muhammad Azam.

An engaging and insightful discussion ensued, during which the wisdom and experiences of senior faculty provided invaluable guidance to the younger generation, offering lessons of both professional and personal significance.

The session concluded on a positive note, with a shared vision to continue such meaningful interactions in the future, ensuring the preservation and strengthening of the department’s enduring legacy.

The sessions focussed on strengthening Work based assessment tools for uniform assessment of all residents, making various SOPs so that uniformity be present among all procedures
The workshop comprehensively covered audit design, all 6 stages of audit, advantages of audit. A clinical audit done on pre_op investigations in SHL was presented.
The event was held under patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore,

Anaesthesia department of SHL continues to promote excellence and scholarly development among future healthcare professionals

The Department of Anesthesia, under the leadership of the Principal Prof Dr Zohra Khanam and the supervision of Prof Dr Liaqat Ali successfully organized a two-day academic activity on Regional Anesthesia from January 23 to January 24 2026.

The program featured active participation from international faculty member Dr. Xavier Falieres, President of the Dutch Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia and Executive Member of the European Society of Day Case Anesthesia.

The academic activity included in-depth discussions on contemporary practices in fascial plane blocks, their role in opioid-sparing analgesia, and the use of adjuncts with local anesthetics. This was followed by live intraoperative demonstrations of ultrasound-guided regional blocks in selected patients.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from anesthesiologists representing various tertiary care hospitals. The sessions were highly interactive and were met with positive feedback, reflecting the strong academic impact and relevance of the activity.
