Kunri Pak is a small town located in the Sindh province in the southern part of Pakistan. It is about 300 miles (480 km) from Karachi, one of the largest cities in Pakistan. It has a population of about 100000 people composed of mostly Muslims, however there is a large Christian, Kashmiri and Hindu minority. The large population of Christians and Hindus, unique to Pakistan, came
about because many people decided not move to India during the 1947 Partition of India. The Kashiri population arrived in 1960 after there was a large migration due to the sever winter suffered. To this day it still uncertain why they choose to reside in Kunri, a backward town. (Economy)
Kunri's economy is mostly based on agriculture.Apart from this, the region produces many different types of crops, including red chiles, cotton, and mangoes. By far, the most popular crop in Kunri is the red chile, which sustains the financial structure of the town. The majority of traders belong to Hindu minority. This city is located in the tail region of the Indus river, causing a lack of water throughout the year. Air-conditioned coaches (buses) have been running from Kunri to Karachi for years now which makes travel much easier than from other small towns. Recently, the transportation system has been improved even further.Apart from this,Kunri is known for the biggest chilies market in Asia. (Culture)
It has a conservative culture unlike the metropolitan cities of Pakistan. Women are expected to wear burqa when in public. Men wear salwar kameez, typical of the majority of Pakistani men. But the sindhi men, in addition to wearing shalwar kameez, keep the sindhi cap on their heads. Jeeps are widely used instead of cars in this area. A section of women of Hindu and some Christian religion wear ghaagra and wear the bangles from shoulders to wrists that's their cultural and historical dress. It is uncommon for women of Kunri to work outside of their homes. Mostly women doing handicraft also. One famous Christian colony is Josephabad in kunri. (Transportation)
It is a small backward town however there are still decent means of transportation. Transportation consists mostly of rickshaws, three-wheeled motorcycles, and bicycles. There are also cars and buses that enable the citizens of Kunri to travel as far as Karachi. The only single road joining Kunri to Mirpurkhas is in worst condition that required to be repaired immediately in order to reduce problems of the city. However, it must be noted that the transportation system is getting better day by day. The desert runner trucks "KAYKRA" is used to travel in deserted area near Kunri whereas for the transfer of goods like different crops goods Shahzad Ashraf Goods Transpoart company is working. The weather of Kunri remains cold in winter but to 03-12 degree Celsius. But in summer the weather becomes very hot and reaches up to 46 degree Celsius. Dust storms are frequent during the summer season. The average rainfall is about 100 millimeters. (GILL ART CIRCLE KUNRI)
