Karachi: Awami Workers Party, Pakistan. participates actively in KESC Labour Union's May Day gathering
Karachi — On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, leaders and workers of the Awami Workers Party - Karachi participated in large numbers in a gathering organized by the KESC Labour Union. On this occasion, the Central President of the Awami Workers' Party , Comrade Akhtar Hussain Advocate addressed the participants.
In his speech, Comrade Akhtar Hussain paid tribute to the martyrs of Chicago, highlighting the historical struggle of the labour movement and its foundational principles. He also spoke in detail about imperialist wars imposed at the global level and the economic and social crises resulting from them.
He stated that rising inflation and unemployment in Pakistan have made life increasingly difficult for the working class. Furthermore, policies of the IMF and the World Bank have promoted the contract system, which has not only undermined workers’ rights but also deprived them of key protections such as the eight-hour workday and access to basic healthcare.
He emphasized that the state and conventional political parties have failed to address the issues faced by the working class. He stressed that meaningful change in the current system is only possible if workers, trade unions, labour organizations, and left-wing forces unite in a collective struggle; otherwise, the common people will continue to suffer under this exploitative system.
Other speakers at the gathering also addressed workers’ rights, resistance against privatization, and the challenges faced by labourers. The event reaffirmed the commitment that the Awami Workers Party stands shoulder to shoulder with the working class and will continue its struggle for their rights.
A large number of workers attended the gathering and demonstrated strong class solidarity.
