Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Director General NARC, met with Ms. Jenny Van Beam, Global Genebank Partnership Coordinator, Crop Trust, along with the Plant Genetic Resources Program team, to discuss strategies for enhancing Pakistan’s vital plant genetic resources.

The meeting highlighted continued collaboration between NARC and the Crop Trust to ensure agricultural sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and food security in Pakistan.

A one-day training on “Gender-Inclusive Research and Development in Agriculture” was held today at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), jointly organized by the Social Sciences Research Institute (SSRI), PARC, and the CABI Gender Technical Working Group (GTWG).

The session emphasized the importance of mainstreaming gender perspectives in agricultural research, policy, and innovation to ensure equitable participation and inclusive development across the sector.

Day 1: 6th Applied Economics Conference 2025
The School of Economics, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, in collaboration with the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), inaugurated the 6th Applied Economics Conference 2025 today at the NARC Auditorium, Islamabad.

Themed “Bridging Gaps: Strategies for Food Loss Mitigation,” the opening day featured insightful inaugural and technical sessions highlighting food loss mitigation, sustainable value chains, and public–private partnerships in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.

Distinguished speakers and participants from FAO, PIDE, IIUI, BZU, and PARC shared valuable perspectives on promoting food security and reducing post-harvest losses.

A meeting was held at PARC-National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) with Dr. Romeo Labios, Alternate Lead Technical Officer (FAO), under the regional project “Enhancing Capacity on Sustainable Value Chain Development of Millets for Food and Nutrition Security in Pakistan (TCP/RAS/3909)”.

The project, implemented in collaboration with FAO, MNFSR, PARC, NARC, and Provincial Agriculture Departments, aims to promote climate-resilient and nutritious millet crops for sustainable and inclusive agrifood systems in Pakistan.

During the meeting, discussions focused on progress, key deliverables, and future actions to strengthen millet value chains, promote better production, better nutrition, better environment, and better life in line with FAO’s Strategic Framework (2022–2031).

Organized under the KOPIA Technical Cooperation Project at PARC-National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad, the 4-day international workshop commenced today with great enthusiasm.

The inaugural session featured distinguished guests, including Dr. Syed Murtaza Hassan Andrabi (Chairman, PARC), Dr. Khalid Mehmood (DG, NARC), and Mr. Park Intae (Director, KOPIA Pakistan Center).

Dr. Jihwan Lee, Animal Reproduction Specialist from the National Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), RDA Korea, delivered insightful remarks on advanced reproductive technologies and their role in livestock improvement.

Participants also visited ARGP laboratories and animal sheds to observe practical demonstrations, marking a productive start to this international collaboration.

World Food Day 2025 was commemorated at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
