Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan — Transfer & Posting Orders

The Chief Conservator Forests, Gilgit-Baltistan, has issued transfer and posting orders of Range Forest Officers (BS-16) and Foresters (BS-11) with immediate effect on administrative grounds and in the public interest.

The reshuffle aims to ensure effective forest management, strengthen field operations, and enhance conservation efforts across different forest divisions of Gilgit-Baltistan.

We wish all officers the best in their new assignments and look forward to their continued commitment towards protecting the forests, wildlife, and natural resources of GB.

Forest, Wildlife & Environment Department GB Signs LoA for Snow Leopard Conservation

The Forest, Wildlife & Environment Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, signed a Letter of Agreement (LoA) with the Baltistan Wildlife Conservation and Development Organization (BWCDO) on 20 August 2026, marking another important step toward strengthening wildlife conservation efforts across Gilgit-Baltistan.

The collaboration will focus on the conservation of the iconic Snow Leopard and its prey species, while also addressing human-wildlife conflict through community-based and sustainable approaches.

Under the agreement, both organizations will work together on wildlife research and surveys, conflict mitigation measures, conservation awareness, and community-based conservation education programs.

The initiative reflects the Department’s continued commitment to protecting Gilgit-Baltistan’s unique biodiversity while promoting peaceful coexistence between local communities and wildlife.

Action Against Illegal Timber Transportation in Chilas

On the directions of DFO Chilas, Forest Department officials conducted a successful raid in the Raikot Tata Pani area, intercepting four vehicles allegedly carrying timber. The vehicles and timber were taken into custody, while four drivers were arrested for further legal proceedings.

The Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan remains committed to protecting our forests and taking firm action against illegal timber transportation.

Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan Takes Action Against Illegal Timber Transportation in Chilas

As per the source report, on the directions of DFO Chilas, Forester Guner conducted a targeted raid in the Raikot Tata Pani area against the illegal transportation of timber.

Forester Guner, accompanied by FG Mateen, Orangzaib and Sadar, successfully intercepted four motor cars allegedly carrying timber. The vehicles along with the timber were taken into custody, while four drivers were arrested on the spot for further legal proceedings.

The operation reflects the continued efforts of the Forest Department Gilgit-Baltistan to curb illegal timber transportation, protect valuable forest resources, and ensure enforcement of forest laws across the region.

Wildlife Protection Operation in Minawar

Acting swiftly on information regarding an attempted illegal hunting of Markhor in Minawar, the Wildlife Protection Team, Forest, Parks & Wildlife Department Gilgit-Baltistan conducted a raid and successfully intercepted the hunting attempt before any Markhor could be harmed.

During the operation, one suspect was apprehended red-handed, while the remaining suspects managed to escape from the scene. Further legal action is being pursued in accordance with applicable wildlife laws.

Under the leadership of Secretary Forests, Parks & Wildlife Gilgit-Baltistan, Sibtain Ahmad, the Department is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against illegal hunting and poaching, with strengthened vigilance and enforcement efforts across Gilgit-Baltistan.
