The College of Teacher Education at Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Tampilisan Campus has secured a significant external research grant of around two million pesos (PHP 2,000,000) from the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) for Prof. Herford Rei B. Guibangguibang's innovative project focused on language documentation. This research, submitted during the 2026 Call for Proposals, aims to explore and preserve the linguistic heritage of an indigenous community in Zamboanga del Norte.
The proposal underwent rigorous evaluation by a Technical Panel from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), De La Salle University - Manila (DLSU), and Far Eastern University (FEU) before being reviewed and scrutinized by the NRCP Governing Board during a special meeting on July 17, 2024. Although the approval is subject to compliance with a few board recommendations, funding under the 2026 NRCP Grants-in-Aid Program is assured. This milestone marks a significant advancement for JRMSU-TC and its academic endeavors.
As the institution celebrates this groundbreaking achievement, Prof. Guibangguibang shared his excitement, saying, โI feel everything because I am a feeler (kidding aside). I am extremely happy about this news as it will contribute greatly to my college in the future. Also, I can hardly believe that at my age, I can achieve things like this. Everything is for my dear CTEd and JRMSU! Eyyyyyy ๐ค.โ
The academic community looks forward to the project's potential impact on both local and national levels. The successful approval of this proposal reflects the dedication and expertise not only of Prof. Guibangguibang but also of JRMSU's faculty and researchers, paving the way for future scholarly ventures and collaborations.
For the College of Teacher Education, this achievement signifies the dawn of a new era in academic excellence and external collaboration. The insights gained from this pioneering language documentation research will extend far beyond Zamboanga del Norte, enriching the broader narrative of the Philippines' cultural identity.
