The Acacia Hall of LM Metro Hotel in Tetuan, Zamboanga City shimmered with pride and anticipation on May 21, 2026, as Brent Hospital and Colleges Incorporatedโs College of Physical Therapy held its first-ever Stethoscope, Nameplate, and Pinning Ceremony. This historic event became possible as, for the first time, the PT Department welcomed a large number of students in the first-yearโenough to establish a tradition that marks their academic and professional transitions. With the theme โSTRIDE 2026: Transformative Steps into the PT Profession,โ emphasizing Success, Transition, Responsiveness, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence, the ceremony became a defining milestone in the departmentโs history.
The inaugural event was designed to symbolize the academic and professional transitions of every year level. For the first time, the College of Physical Therapy formally recognized these milestones through emblems that embody responsibility and identity in the profession:
โขStethoscope tags for first-year students, signifying their transition into the second year and their deeper immersion into the medical sciences;
โขNameplates for second-year students, marking their advancement into the third year and the strengthening of their professional identity; and
โขPins for third-year students, symbolizing their readiness to step into internship and embrace the responsibilities of clinical practice.
The program commenced with an invocation and the singing of hymns, followed by welcoming remarks from the faculty members and administrators. Dean Marvin D. Zotomayor, MSPT, PTRP, CNMT, alongside distinguished faculty members and coordinators, led the presentation and acceptance of candidates, affirming their readiness to embrace the responsibilities of the profession.
The ceremony was graced by guest speaker Selah Agayam Musni, PTRP, who drew from two decades of experience in the field to inspire the students. Her message emphasized compassion, resilience, and dedicationโvalues that define the heart of physical therapy.
Another memorable moment was the Turning Over of the Key of Responsibility, where Jehadson G. Candelaria, intern graduate, formally passed the symbolic key to Freyjan Razzi A. Paddam, a third-year student preparing to enter internship. This tradition highlighted the continuity of responsibility and the trust placed in the next generation of physical therapy practitioners.
The awarding of center awards was led by Veronica M. Valesco, PTRP, RPT, recognizing intern students who exemplified excellence and commitment in both academic and clinical endeavors. The moment celebrated not only individual achievement but also the collective spirit of the cohort.
The program also featured heartfelt testimonials, including one from Keanna Alever C. Tahil, who shared her personal journey as a Physical Therapy student. She spoke of the challenges and triumphs that shaped her path and offered an inspiring message to future graduates: to embrace perseverance, compassion, and dedication as guiding principles in their professional lives. Her words left a lasting impression, motivating her peers to stride forward with courage and purpose.
Finally, the ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Bryan G. Alejandro, PTRP, RPT, who emphasized the importance of carrying forward the values of Brent Hospital and Colleges Incorporated into future practice. His words served as a reminder that the ceremony was not an end, but a beginningโa call to uphold integrity, dedication, and service within the profession.
As the closing echoes filled Acacia Hall, one message resonated clearly: this was not merely a ceremony, but the first transformative step of STRIDE 2026โa tradition that will continue to shape the future of Brentโs Physical Therapy students.
