Innovation in Action: Day 2 of the ZamPen InnoHive Design Thinking Workshop
June 4, 2025
The second and final day of the ZamPen InnoHive Design Thinking Workshop, held on June 4, 2025, concluded with a showcase of creativity, collaboration, and innovative thinking. WMSU-IE students presented their prototypes—each aimed at addressing real-world challenges in key local industries.
Before the workshop officially began, students had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Mario Rodriguez, who shared insights into the goals and functions of the Ateneo Center for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Development. His session provided a valuable perspective on innovation and entrepreneurship support in the region.
Mr. Joebertson Bicalas followed with a presentation on the challenges and opportunities across various local industries, effectively setting the stage for the prototyping activity. Students responded with creative and thoughtful solutions for sectors such as abaca, cacao, coffee, coconut, rubber, palm oil, fish and seaweed products, bamboo, mango, processed fruits and nuts, wearables and homestyle, and the creative industry.
Prototypes were evaluated based on problem understanding, creativity and innovation, functionality, user experience, and overall presentation. ARD Maridel Dengal served as the judge and praised the students’ imaginative and well-thought-out designs.
While this marked the end of the two-day Design Thinking Workshop, the momentum carried over into the next activity—the Business Expenses Savings Training (BEST) Game. From designing solutions to testing business smarts, the students wrapped up the series with energy and enthusiasm.
