WORD Today
10/06/23
Baruch 1:15-22
Lk 10:13-16
In the 1st Reading (586 BC) the Jews enslaved in distant Babylon confess that they are suffering because they, their kings and priests did not listen to God. "Instead we did as we pleased and went on our own evil way."
In the Gospel, Jesus is deeply frustrated with 3 cities where He performed mighty miracles. They were very blessed but they would not listen to His corrections. The names of the 3 cities are unfamiliar, so let's try more familiar ones.
Jesus said, "Woe to you, Western Europe! Woe to you, Australia! For if the miracles done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented... As for you North America, will you be praised in heaven? You will go down to hell."
These continents are greatly blessed with abundance, but do they listen to God? They practice contraception, abortion, divorce, same-sex union and euthanasia. And many of their bishops either bless or ignore those sins.
Let us pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, for our own sins and those of the whole world.
