SciHi Tagbilaran Alumni for Leni along with other students, alumni, and faculty groups from the Holy Spirit School of Tagbilaran, Holy Name University, Bohol Wisdom School, International Academe of EnScieMa, and University of Bohol have banded together under the Bohol for Leni - Robredo People's Council (BFL-RPC) umbrella in preparation for the upcoming Tagbilaran Grand Rally on April 1 (Friday) at the Old Tagbilaran City Airport.

In this time of historical revisionism and fake news, it is all the more important for us to equip ourselves with the truth.

Lauren Greenfield's 2019 documentary The Kingmaker is now available to stream for free on Vimeo. The spotlight is trained on the Marcos family matriarch Imelda, a key figure in the attempts to rehabilitate her family's name and image and facilitate their return to political power. Imelda's own glowing account of her husband's regime is starkly juxtaposed with the horror stories of martial law survivors.

Sa karon nga sitwasyon sa atong nasud, kami nga usa ka grupo sa mga alumni sa Tagbilaran City Science High School, nagkahiusa sa pagkondenar sa mga nagkalat nga bakak nga balita o fake news ug sa mga pagsulay sa paglimud ug pagtabon sa kamatuoran sa mga panghitabo karon ug sa atong kasaysayan. Kami nanawagan alang sa usa ka hinlo, tinud-anay, ug patas nga eleksyon karong umaabot nga Mayo 9. Amo usab nga giawhag ang among mga kaubanan nga mobarog ug gamiton sa saktong pamaagi ang atong katungod sa pagbotar.

Kaniadto, gitawag namo ang among eskwelahan isip lugar “where great minds meet,” isip “flagship of excellence and cradle of future scientists.” Apan unsay bili sa mga nakat-onan sa pag-eskwela kung dili magamit alang sa kaayuhan sa katilingban? The Kingmaker puts an unnerving spotlight on the controversial figure Imelda Marcos and her family’s efforts to rehabilitate their name and image in order to return to political power.

SciHi Tagbilaran Alumni Statement of Support for Leni Robredo

We, a group of alumni of Tagbilaran City Science High School, come together during this crucial point in our country’s history to: condemn fake news and historical revisionism; to call for honest and just elections; and to urge our peers to exercise our democratic right to vote with discernment.

We all once called this humble hilltop the place where great minds meet, the flagship of excellence and the cradle of future scientists. But of what value is a science that does not serve the best interests of the people? Misinformation is running rampant in this crucial time, thus it is all the more imperative for us, as scholars of the people who continue to carry with us our training in scientific and critical thinking, to take a stand.

We, SciHi Tagbilaran Alumni for Leni, stand for excellence with integrity; for honesty, commitment, and service to the people. We stand for accountable, transparent, and science-based governance, which Leni Robredo has exemplified in her term as Vice-President of the Philippines.

VP Leni herself is a social scientist, with a BA in Economics from the University of the Philippines Diliman. The social sciences are often overlooked and undervalued in contrast to the natural sciences, but it is through the work of social scientists that we are better able to understand ourselves, our society, our history, and our culture(s). It is her wealth of experience in working with grassroots communities as a pro-bono lawyer that has contributed to the success of many of the Office of the Vice-President’s programs in – among others – livelihood, health, education, and disaster response.

These are difficult times. We face not only an ongoing global pandemic but also the negative impacts of climate change and increasing geopolitical tensions. Now, more than ever, we need competent, principled, and compassionate leadership. For a future where , a is key, and we believe that Leni Robredo is the one best suited to wield it.
