"The City Government of Tabuk, led by Mayor Darwin Estraรฑero, together with the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga (PLGU), warmly welcomed Fatima Aliah Dimaporo, Undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Group (LIAG), during her visit on February 18 held at the M Hotel.
The visit focused on the proposed establishment of a Regional Bahay Pag-asa in Magsaysay, Tabuk City.
This initiative followed the request of Mayor Estraรฑero and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian during his recent visit to the province, where discussions were held regarding the need for a Bahay Pag-asa facility.
The City Government has committed to providing the lot where the center will be constructed, while the DSWD will fund the buildingโs construction.
Bahay Pag-asa is a 24-hour child-caring institution established, funded, and managed by local government units (LGUs), and licensed and/or accredited non-government organizations (NGOs).
It provides short-term residential care for children in conflict with the law (CICL), aged above fifteen (15) but below eighteen (18) years old, who are awaiting court disposition.
The establishment of the center is considered essential in addressing the increasing number of CICL cases, based on reports from concerned authorities.
The facility aims to provide proper intervention, rehabilitation, and support services for the youth in the community.
Undersecretary Dimaporo was accompanied by DSWD-CAR Regional Director Maria Catbagan Aplaten and her team.
The City Mayor, members of the City Council, representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, various city departments, and the PLGU represented by Johnny Maymaya and PSWDO were also present to welcome the delegation.
The Muslim community of Tabuk City also extended their warm welcome to the Undersecretary and her team.
The program featured cultural presentations, including traditional dances from both the Kalinga and Muslim communities.
Tokens of appreciation were presented to the visitors as a gesture of gratitude for their support and partnership in advancing social welfare services in the city."
