iTuloy ang pagsulong ng buhay!
We are IT Philippines, Inc. (WIT), the country’s leading satellite broadband provider, is spearheading project Oplan Ligtas Bukas in response to the recent calls of both President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo to provide communities with internet access, especially those areas (LGUs) that have weak or no connectivity at all, which is crucial in facing the needs, and demands, of the new normal on our daily activities.
Ligtas Bukas will help barangays build “smart communities” through the pockets of connectivity that will provide internet communications platform. It hopes to help the DepEd with its chosen blended learning method, boost electronic trading and other social needs of the community. The local government units (LGUs), on the other hand, will have stronger e-governance capabilities, as the system is bundled with the tools to help their communities quickly respond to disasters and emergency situations.
Mounted on a 20-feet steel pole, Ligtas Bukas “smart poles” will provide a scalable satellite-based broadband internet up to 50 Mbps per station. It shall provide 24/7 connectivity for emergencies, and inter or intra barangay communications, real time communications via long range intercom system, internet messaging and voice calls. Barangays shall be powered up with early warning system with link to the national government which is vital in times of disasters. Ligtas Bukas poles are also environment-friendly because of its solar-power technology.
Project Ligtas Bukas is a brainchild of Thomas “Tim” Orbos, a former undersecretary of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Transportation (DoTr).
