𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Macrohon conducted a Mental Health Symposium for its employees on August 11, 2026, at the Municipal Training Hall, in partnership with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Southern Leyte, headed by Dr. Jean Marie R. Uy, Provincial Health Officer I. The activity aimed to promote mental health awareness, encourage open conversations about emotional and psychological well-being, and strengthen employees’ understanding of the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced life.

The symposium featured Ma’am Vilma Grate, RM, Provincial Mental Health Program Coordinator, as the resource speaker. She shared valuable insights on mental health, stress management, emotional well-being, healthy coping mechanisms, and the importance of seeking support when needed. Her discussion emphasized that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being and that seeking help is a sign of strength and self-awareness.

The activity also provided LGU employees with an opportunity to reflect on their personal well-being and the challenges they encounter in their professional and personal lives. Through meaningful discussions and interactive activities, participants were encouraged to become more mindful of their mental health and to foster a workplace culture built on understanding, compassion, and mutual support.

The LGU Macrohon expresses its sincere appreciation to the Provincial Health Office of Southern Leyte, under the leadership of Dr. Jean Marie R. Uy, and to Ma’am Vilma Grate, RM, for their valuable contribution to the success of the symposium. The activity underscores the LGU’s continued commitment to promoting a healthy, supportive, and mentally resilient workplace where the welfare and well-being of every employee are valued and prioritized.

As part of this initiative and in support of the DOH Healthy Workplace Program, the Municipal Government of Macrohon encourages its employees to avail of their Special Privilege Leave (SPL), as applicable, to accompany their children during the Ligtas Tigdas immunization activity. This allows parents and guardians to actively participate in protecting their children against measles and rubella while promoting a healthy and supportive workplace.

The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy students of The College of Maasin paid a courtesy call on Municipal Mayor Hon. Atty. Jerome A. Cortina following the successful completion of their 160-hour On-the-Job Training with the Local Government Unit of Macrohon.

Assigned to the Office of the Municipal Accountant and the Office of the Municipal Treasurer, the student interns gained valuable practical experience in government accounting, treasury operations, and public financial management, allowing them to strengthen their knowledge and skills through actual workplace exposure.

During the courtesy call, the students expressed their gratitude to Mayor Cortina for the opportunity to complete their internship in the municipality. In response, Mayor Cortina congratulated them on reaching this important academic milestone and encouraged them to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and excellence as they pursue their future careers in the accounting profession.

He likewise reaffirmed the Local Government Unit’s continued support for academic institutions by providing meaningful internship opportunities that prepare students for public service and professional practice.

The Bachelor of Public Administration students from SLSU - Maasin Campus paid a courtesy call to Hon. Atty. Jerome A. Cortina prior to their deployment for their 200-hour On-the-Job Training (OJT). The visit allowed them to formally introduce themselves and receive guidance on public service, professionalism, and workplace ethics.

Mayor Cortina assured that he will support the students throughout their On-the-Job Training, emphasizing the importance of guidance and mentorship as they gain practical experience in their respective office assignments.

The Local Government Unit of Macrohon successfully conducted the SPMS Evaluation/Assessment Feedbacking and Target Setting by Office on January 14, 2025, at the Mayor’s Conference Room. The activity provided a structured venue for offices to review their July - December 2025 performance, receive feedback on accomplishments and gaps, and align targets for the incoming year in accordance with the Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS).

Department heads and key personnel actively participated in the discussion of performance indicators, implementation challenges, and measurable outcomes. Through this activity, the LGU reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, results-based management, and continuous improvement in public service delivery, ensuring that each office’s targets are responsive to the municipality’s development goals.

The Local Government Unit of Macrohon held its First Friday Mass at the Municipal Lobby, gathering officials and employees in a shared moment of prayer and reflection. The activity fostered spiritual renewal and unity among personnel as they continue their commitment to public service.

During the same event, employees celebrating their birthdays for the month of January were recognized and presented with birthday letters from the Municipal Mayor.
