In celebration of Road Safety Awareness Month, the Municipal Health Office, in partnership with Barangay Tasiman, gathered residents, particularly drivers and motorcycle riders, on May 28, 2026, for a road safety awareness activity aimed at promoting responsible road behavior and preventing road traffic injuries and deaths.
As road accidents continue to claim lives across the country, the activity emphasized the importance of discipline, vigilance, and shared responsibility in promoting safer roads within the community.
Municipal Health Officer Dr. Arenz Jade C. Docdocil opened the discussion by presenting the road traffic mortality situation in the Philippines, with emphasis on the SOCCSKSARGEN Region. Through a data-driven presentation, Dr. Docdocil highlighted that road traffic injuries remain preventable causes of morbidity and mortality and stressed the importance of community awareness, discipline, compliance with traffic laws, and evidence-based interventions in reducing road-related deaths and injuries. He further encouraged participants, particularly drivers, to practice responsible road behavior to help prevent avoidable road crashes.
Serving as resource speaker, PCPL Cherry Mae A. Escote, RN of the Lake Sebu Municipal Police Station, discussed the essential doโs and donโts while driving, emphasizing responsible road behavior, traffic discipline, and safe driving practices. Participants were reminded of the dangers of reckless driving, distracted driving, overspeeding, and negligence, which continue to contribute to preventable road crashes. PCPL Escote also underscored the importance of possessing a valid driverโs license for individuals operating motorcycles and other motor vehicles and discussed the proper actions to take during road accidents. In addition, she highlighted road rage prevention by encouraging motorists to remain calm, avoid confrontation, and exercise patience while on the road.
The activity forms part of the continuing observance of Road Safety Awareness Month and reflects the ongoing efforts of the Municipal Health Office to promote a culture of safety and responsibility among all road users.
